Job Overview:

CNC Machinist – Mazak Multi-Axis Turning

Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421

Position Type: Full-Time | On-Site

The Opportunity

R12 Talent is recruiting an experienced CNC Machinist for an established engineering and manufacturing client in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys precision engineering, challenging machining projects, and working with advanced CNC turning equipment.

The position focuses on Mazak multi-axis CNC lathes with live tooling, producing a variety of complex components where accuracy, quality, and attention to detail are essential.

Unlike a typical high-volume production machining role, this opportunity involves working with different component geometries, varying levels of complexity, and demanding tolerances.

We're particularly interested in machinists who are confident programming, setting up, and operating Mazak equipment independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate Mazak multi-axis CNC turning centers.

  • Work with X, Y, Z, and C axes, including live tooling applications.

  • Develop and modify machining programs using Mazatrol conversational programming.

  • Manufacture complex precision components to engineering specifications.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and machining requirements.

  • Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, and machining strategies.

  • Independently complete machine setups, tooling changes, and machining operations.

  • Monitor machining processes to maintain dimensional accuracy and consistent quality.

  • Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, and machining issues.

  • Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment.

  • Make machining adjustments to achieve tight tolerances and required surface finishes.

  • Support machining activities involving different materials, component sizes, and geometries.

  • Identify opportunities to improve machining efficiency, tooling performance, and production quality.

  • Maintain equipment and working areas in accordance with safety and quality standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working as a CNC Machinist, CNC Turner, or CNC Programmer.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Mazak CNC lathes.

  • Proficiency in Mazatrol conversational programming is essential.

  • Experience operating multi-axis turning centers with live tooling.

  • Strong understanding of X, Y, Z, and C-axis machining operations.

  • Ability to independently program, set up, and operate CNC equipment.

  • Experience machining complex components to tight tolerances.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools, machining techniques, and setup procedures.

  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of machining projects.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality components.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in any of the following areas would be particularly relevant:

  • Pump manufacturing or pump component machining

  • Rotating equipment

  • Industrial equipment repair and remanufacturing

  • Precision machining of shafts, sleeves, housings, and other complex components

  • Multi-axis CNC turning

  • Live tooling applications

  • One-off or low-volume precision machining

  • Repair machining and component refurbishment

  • Working with complex geometries and critical dimensional tolerances

  • Troubleshooting and optimizing machining processes

Experience within the pump, rotating equipment, or repair/remanufacturing industries would be a significant advantage.

The Type of Machinist We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can do much more than simply operate a CNC machine.

The ideal candidate will be a confident, experienced machinist who can take an engineering drawing, determine the appropriate machining approach, program the equipment, complete the setup, and produce an accurate finished component.

You'll need to be comfortable working with different part geometries and machining requirements rather than repeating the same production cycle throughout the day.

Strong Mazak and Mazatrol experience is particularly important, along with the ability to troubleshoot issues and maintain tight tolerances without constant supervision.

This opportunity would suit an experienced:

  • CNC Machinist

  • Mazak CNC Machinist

  • CNC Turner

  • CNC Lathe Programmer

  • Multi-Axis CNC Machinist

  • Precision Machinist

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Advanced CNC equipment: Work with Mazak multi-axis turning centers and live tooling.

  • Varied machining projects: Produce components with different geometries, specifications, and levels of complexity.

  • Technical challenge: Apply your programming, setup, and troubleshooting skills to demanding precision machining work.

  • Independent working: Take ownership of machining projects from programming through to finished components.

  • Specialist engineering exposure: Gain or further develop experience within pumps, rotating equipment, and industrial repair applications.

  • Hands-on engineering environment: Work on technically challenging components where precision and machining expertise are highly valued.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced Mazak CNC Machinist who enjoys complex turning work and wants to use their programming and machining skills in a varied, precision-focused environment.
