We are seeking a highly skilled Machinist III to join our Manufacturing team. This advanced-level position is responsible for independently setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC lathes and multi-axis machining centers to manufacture precision paint robot components.
The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver with advanced CNC machining experience, Mastercam knowledge, and a passion for continuous improvement. This role also serves as a developmental pathway to future opportunities in Manufacturing Engineering and CNC Programming.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Machining & Setup
- Independently set up and operate CNC lathes and multi-axis vertical and horizontal machining centers.
- Produce complex, high-precision components according to engineering drawings and print specifications.
- Utilize FANUC controls and Mastercam-generated programs to achieve quality and production goals.
- Create and modify simple machine code programs when necessary.
Process Optimization
- Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and increase machine efficiency.
- Analyze machining processes and implement improvements while maintaining part quality.
- Collaborate with CNC Programmers and Engineering teams to refine machining strategies.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Diagnose and resolve machining issues related to tooling, machine performance, program execution, and surface finish requirements.
- Support program validation and process improvements for new and existing products.
Quality Assurance
- Perform detailed inspections using precision measuring instruments.
- Verify product compliance through First Article Inspection (FAI) and First Piece Inspection (FPI) processes.
- Utilize CMM equipment when applicable to ensure dimensional accuracy.
Tooling & Fixture Development
- Assist in designing and implementing tooling and workholding solutions that improve quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Support setup improvements and process repeatability initiatives.
Equipment Integration
- Assist with implementation, programming validation, and startup of new CNC equipment, including FANUC ROBODRILL machining centers.
- Support production readiness and continuous process validation.
Mentorship & Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Machinist I and Machinist II team members.
- Share best practices related to CNC setups, programming adjustments, troubleshooting, and FANUC controls.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, inspection records, and process documentation.
- Lead continuous improvement projects focused on reducing waste, improving process capability, and increasing productivity.
Qualifications
Required
- 6-8 years of CNC machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with multi-axis machining centers and/or CNC lathes.
- Experience with FANUC controls.
- Basic proficiency using Mastercam for program edits and adjustments.
- Advanced blueprint and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments and inspection methods.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex machining issues independently.
Preferred
- Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, brass, plastics, and other engineered materials.
- Knowledge of process capability metrics (CPK/PPK).
- Experience with CMM inspection equipment.
- Familiarity with metric manufacturing and inspection systems.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
