Key Responsibilities

CNC Machining & Setup

  • Independently set up and operate CNC lathes and multi-axis vertical and horizontal machining centers.
  • Produce complex, high-precision components according to engineering drawings and print specifications.
  • Utilize FANUC controls and Mastercam-generated programs to achieve quality and production goals.
  • Create and modify simple machine code programs when necessary.

Process Optimization

  • Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and increase machine efficiency.
  • Analyze machining processes and implement improvements while maintaining part quality.
  • Collaborate with CNC Programmers and Engineering teams to refine machining strategies.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

  • Diagnose and resolve machining issues related to tooling, machine performance, program execution, and surface finish requirements.
  • Support program validation and process improvements for new and existing products.

Quality Assurance

  • Perform detailed inspections using precision measuring instruments.
  • Verify product compliance through First Article Inspection (FAI) and First Piece Inspection (FPI) processes.
  • Utilize CMM equipment when applicable to ensure dimensional accuracy.

Tooling & Fixture Development

  • Assist in designing and implementing tooling and workholding solutions that improve quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support setup improvements and process repeatability initiatives.

Equipment Integration

  • Assist with implementation, programming validation, and startup of new CNC equipment, including FANUC ROBODRILL machining centers.
  • Support production readiness and continuous process validation.

Mentorship & Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Machinist I and Machinist II team members.
  • Share best practices related to CNC setups, programming adjustments, troubleshooting, and FANUC controls.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, inspection records, and process documentation.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on reducing waste, improving process capability, and increasing productivity.

Qualifications

Required

  • 6-8 years of CNC machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with multi-axis machining centers and/or CNC lathes.
  • Experience with FANUC controls.
  • Basic proficiency using Mastercam for program edits and adjustments.
  • Advanced blueprint and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments and inspection methods.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex machining issues independently.

Preferred

  • Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, brass, plastics, and other engineered materials.
  • Knowledge of process capability metrics (CPK/PPK).
  • Experience with CMM inspection equipment.
  • Familiarity with metric manufacturing and inspection systems.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

You should be proficient in:

  • GD&T
  • Troubleshooting Skills

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • CNC Lathe (2-4 axis)
  • Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
  • CNC Lathe (5+ axis)
