ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, which are to be performed accurately, efficiently, within company safety and quality standards, and within required time frames as needed. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

  • Load and unload parts
  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures
  • Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences
  • Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation
  • Set up and perform change overs and operate computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on workpieces so the parts are being machined to print
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions (for older model CNC machines) and respond to machine monitored faults / alarms.
  • Perform set up activities such as mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Determine condition of tooling to ensure efficiency of operation and minimization of scrap
  • Set replacement tooling for running job as required per tool life
  • Measure and set tooling on pre-setter (Zoller)
  • Follow internal tooling management and documentation processes
  • Perform coolant checks, skim off tramp oil, and check refract
  • Troubleshoots basic machining problems; communicates issues to supervisors; resolves or escalates problem for resolution per the plant escalation process.
  • Modify cutting programs by making off-sets to account for normal process variations encountered during operation
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls as needed for normal operating variations
  • Perform quality checks, including statistical sampling, and process capability monitoring
  • Run first piece, inspect, and obtain Quality Department approval where required, including interpreting CMM data results and making necessary adjustments.
  • Follow safety regulations; keep work areas and equipment clean and orderly using 5S standards.
  • May perform other duties as assigned and extend into other areas as needed.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required
  • Perform tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Document hour-by-hour performance
  • Complete autonomous maintenance activities as identified in TPM

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to use a variety of gauges
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships
  • Ability to work effectively in independent situations and exercise good judgment to reach sound conclusions
  • Ability to use Kanban workflow for optimal build performance
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical/problem-solving skills and time management skills
  • Must demonstrate strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, schedules, rules, procedures, etc.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and perform from various documents, including method sheets, assembly drawings, production reports, blueprints, printed shop schedules, KanBan cards/boards, operating maintenance instruction and procedure manuals, etc.
  • Ability to properly identify components and gain extensive parts knowledge
  • Ability to identify and obtain appropriate parts for workstation operation
  • Ability to judge distances, spatial relationships, and perform visual and/or mechanical inspections; ability to distinguish colors and finishes
  • Intermediate math and computer skills
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools and equipment, including micrometers and calipers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity; ability to use fingers and hands to feel, handle, or squeeze; reach with hands and arms; twist/turn body; perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, frequently and for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
  • Ability to continuously lift to 5 pounds, frequently lift to 25 pounds, occasionally lift to 60 pounds, and rarely lift over 60 pounds. Any lifts over 35 pounds should be done with assistance.

MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to use two hand controls
  • Ability to use pneumatic tools
  • Ability to use testing equipment

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exposure to various chemicals including greases, oils, and adhesives in safe exposure amounts and approved for use in our facility by EHS
  • Exposure to temperature changes
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels with intermittent loud noises
  • Exposure to vibration
  • Exposure to dirt and/or dust
  • Exposure to sharp objects and parts
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, protected by approved guarding and controls

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum requirements:
    • One year of machining experience preferred
    • Previous tooling experience preferred
