About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Set-Up Machinist to join our growing machining team in Northbrook, IL. This position is focused specifically on CNC lathe setup operations, including tooling setup, offsets, changeovers, program verification, and first-piece inspection.
The ideal candidate has strong experience setting up CNC lathes independently and can troubleshoot machining issues while maintaining tight tolerances and high production quality standards.
What You'll Do
CNC Lathe Set-Up & Operation
- Set up CNC lathes for production runs based on blueprints, process sheets, and work instructions
- Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, jaws, and offsets
- Load and verify CNC programs for production
- Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary machine adjustments
- Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot setup or machining issues
- Perform setup changeovers efficiently to minimize downtime
- Work with Haas, Okuma, and other CNC lathe platforms
- Maintain accurate setup and production documentation
Quality & Inspection
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other precision measuring instruments
- Hold tight tolerances and maintain consistent part quality
- Follow quality procedures and maintain traceability documentation
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Follow all PPE, machine guarding, and safety procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Assist with process improvements, setup reduction, and tooling optimization
- Communicate production or quality concerns to supervisors and engineering
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of CNC lathe setup experience required
- Experience with Haas, Okuma, or similar CNC lathe controls preferred
- Ability to independently perform machine setups and changeovers
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience machining composites, plastics, or aerospace components
- Familiarity with multi-axis or live-tool lathes
- Technical machining education or certification

Work Environment
This position requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in a manufacturing environment with noise and composite dust exposure (proper PPE provided).
