Job Overview:

TekPro is partnered with a leading precision machining manufacturer serving the aerospace and defense industries in the search for experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinists. This position is best suited for machinists who are comfortable performing their own setups, making program edits, and working across different CNC turning equipment. The company operates a modern, 150,000-square-foot, air-conditioned facility with newer equipment, above-market hourly pay, a 10% shift differential, and consistent availability of 10+ hours of overtime per week.

Position Summary

The CNC Lathe Setup Machinist will set up and run CNC turning equipment used to produce close-tolerance components for aerospace and defense applications. Machinists are expected to work independently from prints and job instructions, complete setups, prove out parts, make necessary adjustments, and inspect their work throughout the machining process.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes and turning centers for production and repeat machining work.
  • Read blueprints, job travelers, and manufacturing instructions to determine machining requirements.
  • Interpret GD&T and dimensional tolerances as they apply to the part.
  • Select and install tooling, inserts, workholding, jaws, fixtures, and other setup components.
  • Establish work offsets, tool offsets, and other machine settings required for each job.
  • Run first pieces, inspect completed features, and make adjustments before releasing the job for production.
  • Perform turning operations including facing, boring, drilling, grooving, threading, and related machining processes.
  • Check parts throughout the production run using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision inspection equipment.
  • Make offset adjustments and minor CNC program edits to maintain dimensions, finishes, and overall part quality.
  • Identify and correct common machining problems involving tooling, workholding, dimensions, finishes, or machine performance.
  • Monitor tool wear and replace or adjust cutting tools as needed.
  • Complete required production and inspection documentation accurately.
  • Perform basic machine care and routine maintenance as required.
  • Work with programmers, engineering, quality, and production personnel when resolving machining or setup issues.
  • Follow established safety and quality procedures while maintaining an organized work area.

Qualifications

  • Previous CNC lathe/turning setup and operating experience in a precision machining environment.
  • Ability to independently perform CNC machine setups and run jobs from start through production.
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
  • Experience making offsets and CNC program edits at the machine.
  • Ability to use standard precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Experience with multiple CNC machine brands and/or controls is highly preferred.
  • Aerospace, defense, or other close-tolerance machining experience is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident due to ITAR requirements associated with defense work.
