CNC Field Service Technician / Engineer

We are looking for experienced CNC Field Service Technicians / Engineers who know machine tools from the inside out.

This is a hands-on field service role for someone who can walk into a customer facility, diagnose a CNC machine issue, determine the root cause, and get the equipment running correctly again.

We are especially interested in technicians with experience servicing CNC machining centers, automated machining centers, turning equipment, and lathes, with horizontal lathe and VTL experience considered a strong plus.

What You'll Be Doing

You will work directly at customer sites performing troubleshooting, repair, installation, startup, and commissioning of CNC equipment.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and CNC control issues

• Diagnosing machine failures and determining root cause

• Replacing and repairing major components including spindles, ball screws, linear guides, motors, drives, bearings, turrets, and tool changers

• Performing machine alignment, leveling, geometry checks, and adjustments

• Troubleshooting CNC controls, PLCs, sensors, interlocks, and machine sequences

• Installing and integrating accessories such as bar feeders, probing systems, automation equipment, and robotics

• Performing machine installation, startup, testing, preventive maintenance, and repair

• Training and supporting customers on equipment operation and maintenance

Experience helping with CNC programming is a plus, but is not required.

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidates will have hands-on experience servicing, maintaining, or repairing CNC machine tools.

Relevant machine experience may include:

• Automated machining centers

• 3-axis and 5-axis machining centers

• Swiss machines

• Mill-Turn equipment

• Multispindle machines

• Turning centers

• Horizontal lathes

• VTLs / Vertical Turning Lathes

You do not need experience with every machine type.

Experience working in field service supporting automated machining centers, especially troubleshooting, repair, installation, and commissioning, is highly relevant.

Controls, PLC & Troubleshooting

Experience with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar systems is important.

PLC experience is strongly preferred and may include Siemens Step 7, Fanuc PMC, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or other machine-tool PLC platforms.

You do not need to be a PLC programmer, but you should be comfortable using alarms, diagnostics, schematics, machine documentation, I/O, sensors, and machine logic to determine why a machine is not operating correctly.

We are looking for someone who can go beyond simply replacing parts and knows how to work through a difficult machine problem when the answer is not obvious.

Customer & Travel Expectations

This is a true field service position, so candidates should be comfortable:

• Working independently at customer facilities

• Explaining technical problems clearly

• Managing service calls professionally

• Communicating progress and next steps

• Traveling frequently from a home-based location

Background

An associate degree, technical degree, or certification in electronics, electrical technology, mechatronics, industrial maintenance, machine tool technology, or a related field is helpful.

Equivalent hands-on CNC service experience is equally valuable.

We are much more interested in what you have personally worked on, repaired, aligned, installed, and troubleshot than simply checking boxes on a degree.

AutoCAD and AlphaCam experience are not required.
