Indianapolis, IN · Onsite · $90,000–$150,000 · Direct hire
An established precision machining company in Indianapolis is hiring a CNC Applications Engineer to be the technical authority on high-precision CNC turning. The seat exists because the business is growing.
This is applications and process engineering, not machine operation. You take customer prints and turn them into complete machining strategies — process flow, tooling approach, cycle-time assumptions, labour inputs — and you are the escalation point when a complex setup or process goes sideways, rather than the person running the job.
What you would do
- Analyse customer prints and specifications to build complete machining strategies for accurate quoting
- Develop, validate and refine CNC turning processes for repeatability, efficiency and manufacturability
- Create, review and optimise CNC programs with an eye on process robustness, tool life and throughput, and help set programming standards
- Provide advanced technical support on complex setup, programming and process problems as the escalation point
- Find cycle-time, tooling-cost and secondary-operation savings through better process design
- Define tooling, collet and workholding solutions that scale
- Work with Quality to set inspection strategies and process controls that hold tight tolerances
- Engage across engineering, operations, quality and the commercial team on manufacturability
What you need
- Associate degree or equivalent technical education in Manufacturing Engineering, CNC Programming or a related field — a bachelor's is not required
- 7+ years supporting CNC turning processes in precision manufacturing, with an applications or process-engineering focus
- A track record of translating customer requirements into complete machining strategies, rather than only executing production work
- Advanced knowledge of CNC programming principles (G-code) and CAM systems, with emphasis on optimisation and standardisation
- Strong understanding of CNC machine controls, servo systems and mechanical fundamentals
- Experience on Swiss-style or comparable high-precision turning platforms
- High mathematical and analytical aptitude
- Comfortable supporting shop-floor teams through technical guidance and problem resolution
- Fully onsite, with strong interaction across departments
Details
- $90,000–$150,000 depending on experience
- Medical, dental and vision insurance; 401(k); paid time off
