    Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) Process Development Engineers at Micron Technology in Boise are an integral part of a groundbreaking Technology Development (R&D) organization! We collaborate with diverse teams across the company to develop new processes for next-generation semiconductor devices.

    Our critical thinking and analytical skills are challenged while performing process characterization, the development of new consumables, new hardware evaluations, and complete ground-breaking research.     Responsibilities and Tasks:

    Supervision: Work without considerable direction. Exert significant latitude in determining objectives of assignment.

    Application: Frequently contribute to developing new theories, concepts, and methods. Be the specialist in the field and be recognized as such by your peers.

    Project Scope: Projects are executed within the area and module.

    Skill Level: Use extensive technical knowledge to guide strategic directions, interpret customer needs, and communicate clearly the needs to internal and external contacts.

    Module ownership and continuous improvement:

    • Seek sophisticated problems to help resolve equipment and/or parameter shifts
    • Design, build, and implement technical products, systems, or processes to improve product quality and/or FAB performance
    • Implement solutions to technologies and services to improve FAB metrics in scrap, cost, rework, cycle time, efficiency or yield
    • Resolve complex integration issues through process development
    • Identify and evaluate interactions between equipment, modules and processes and resolve related issues
    • Set module level roadmap
    • Identify alternate technologies
    • Recognizing opportunities and provide feedback to R&D personnel for technical innovation
    • Mentor new engineers and pilot line engineers
    • Drive module level development and lead large projects of a highly technical nature
    • Standardize methods and procedures across area, department and/or FABs

    Manufacturing Responsibility:

    • Interact on a regular basis with counterparts in manufacturing
    • Interact with manufacturing on CIP projects
    • Communicate Short-term Constraints, Issues, Priorities, and Special Instructions
    • Monitor, Adjust, and Follow Up as necessary
    • Transfer owned process to manufacturing with good support and documentation
    • Act as a ‘go to person’ for module issues
    • Drive yield related issues in manufacturing
    • Participate and drive Key Equipment Group activities

    General Expectations:

    • Contribute to the fulfillment of group objectives
    • Drive project with limited supervisory input
    • Constantly self-evaluate approach and goals
    • Develop, implement, and transfer processes
    • Engage in at least one to two projects focused on module level improvements with cross group interaction
    • Own a within group leadership and mentor role
    • Impact: Achieve end results for significant project without which there will be an inability to reach crucial organizational objectives, will have prolonged effect and will require significant resource investment
    • Interaction: Interact positively with the group, pilot line, vendors, integration, manufacturing, management, KEG and senior customers on matters requiring coordination across organizational boundaries

    Education & Experience:

    MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field

    BS in Chemical Engineering or Material Science with 2+ years of CMP industry experience.
