Position Summary
The CMM Technician is responsible for operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and portable inspection arms to inspect, analyze, and report on parts and assemblies. This role ensures products meet engineering specifications and quality standards through precise measurement, GD&T application, and data-driven analysis.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate and program CMM equipment including bridge CMMs and portable arms (e.g., FARO, Romer)
- Perform dimensional inspections on parts and assemblies at various stages of production
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements to develop inspection routines
- Generate and analyze inspection reports to ensure compliance with specifications
- Troubleshoot measurement issues and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain and calibrate CMM equipment and inspection tools
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve quality concerns
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to measurement and inspection processes
- Assist in other areas of quality or manufacturing as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications (Required)
- At least 18 years of age
- Experience operating CMM equipment or portable measurement arms (FARO, Romer, or similar)
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models
- Proficiency in shop math and dimensional measurement techniques
- Familiarity with inspection software and data analysis tools
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of 3D spatial concepts and measurement principles
Job Qualifications (Preferred)
- Previous manufacturing environment experience
- Associate degree or technical certification in metrology, quality, or related field
Physical Requirements of the Job:
- Frequent walking, standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting and lifting for 8-12 hours per day
- Able to work in non-climate-controlled and noisy environment
- Frequent overhead reaching and reaching with both hands
- Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting or maneuvering loads up to 50 lbs
- Able to wear and tolerate Personal Protective Equipment (apparel and devices)
- Vision acuity, corrected or uncorrected, capable of reading documents, blueprints, gauges, equipment settings, calibration instruments, parts labels and written materials
- Reliable to come to work every day and be on-time
- Flexible work availability, including Overtime during the week and weekends
