We are seeking an experienced CMM Programmer/Operator for a critical quality control role in Walpole, NH. In this position, you will perform rigorous first-piece, receiving, in-process, final, and assembly inspections for low-volume, high-mix, precision components.
The ideal candidate has a strong preference for advanced M-Cosmos programming and operating experience on Mitutoyo CMM equipment, coupled with robust GD&T fundamentals. Candidates coming from PC-DMIS or other CMM platforms with exceptional fundamentals will also be considered.
CMM Programming & Operation:
Operate 3 Mitutoyo CMMs equipped with M-Cosmos software (table sizes: ~3'x3', 3'x5', and 2'x2'; utilizing touch-trigger probes and scanning capability).
Program parts at the machine using a joystick and teach/learn mode (defining circles, planes, flatness, depth, etc.), as well as developing programs from CAD models.
Note: The company is currently transitioning toward an offline M-Cosmos license; candidates must be adaptable to hands-on joystick/teach programming and hard gauging in the interim.
Inspection & Quality Assurance:
Complete first-piece, receiving, in-process, final, and assembly first-piece inspections. Support First Article Inspections (FAIs/FAIRs) and laser inspections.
Conduct thorough receiving inspections for outsourced vendor processes (general machining, NDT, heat treating, plating, coating, painting, and raw material). Review complete data packages (packing slips, POs, drawings, CAs, material certs, test reports, and process certs).
Apply AQL sampling or 100% inspection plans based on customer requirements; initiate variance requests, waivers, and Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) as needed.
Manual Inspection & Documentation:
Utilize precision manual tools including indicators, height stands, tri-mics, micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread/plug gauges, gauge pins, hardness testers, microscopes, profilometers, and optical comparators.
Maintain meticulous documentation using electronic/paper drawings, inspection sheets, and the JobBOSS² ERP system (experience with UniPoint QMS is a plus).
Work in both metric and imperial units with regular unit conversions.
Software & Programming: Strong proficiency in M-Cosmos (preferred) or strong transferable CMM platform experience (e.g., PC-DMIS) combined with advanced GD&T mastery. Must be able to learn or utilize joystick/teach/learn programming methods.
GD&T & Tolerancing: Expert ability to read and apply ASME Y14.5 geometric controls (true position, profile, squareness, flatness, parallelism, roundness, etc.). Experience working to tight tolerances (.0001"–.0002" or tighter) and surface finishes ranging from 4 Ra to 250 Ra.
Materials & Industries: Experience inspecting complex components made from aluminum, stainless steel (heat-treated/annealed), cast iron, brass, copper, and titanium for demanding industries (Medical MRI, Aerospace, Defense, Turbines, Fluid Power).
Physical Requirements: Ability to regularly handle, lift, flip, position (using V-blocks), and load parts up to shoebox size or larger (including inspecting 1,000 mm stainless-steel tubes weighing ~60 lbs, roughly 3 times per day with assisted loading equipment when necessary).
Administrative Skills: High attention to detail for managing heavy documentation workloads and multi-page inspection records.
