Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RIS) is looking for a Software Engineer for our Raytheon’s EED (EOSDIS Evolution and Development) team our of Riverdale, Maryland.

Full time telecommuting is available for this position.

NOT Relocation Eligible - Relocation assistance not available

In this role, you will work with an amazing team of engineers, on the EED-3 program, that supports NASA in its mission to provide scientists and other users access to data from NASA’s Earth science missions. More specifically, you will work on the SDPS SDS team to develop Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities that will process mission science data for remote science users, including variable, spatial and temporal subsetting, reprojection and rasterization and reformatting. You will leverage cloud-based web services (AWS) to perform these functions, and will perform design, development, integration and testing of the software in support of software deliveries using Agile software development methodologies.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible to:

• Use AWS services to build out science data processing in the cloud

• Design and develop software to include Python 3, Java, and C++.

• Participate as a member on an Agile team and work with other team members to review user stories, estimate effort to build functionality supporting user stories and participate in sprint review

• Design and develop shell scripts to support system functionality.

• Manage a project or a set of files using GIT.

• Document release information to achieve an effective product deployment.

• Use effective troubleshooting techniques to identify software problems.

Security Clearance & Other Requirements:

Due to the nature of the work, we can only consider US citizens who are able to pass a National Agency Clearance with Inquires (NACI) screenings.

This position requires the ability to access systems that contain information restricted to U.S, Citizens based on certain Federal Government contractual requirements.

Requirements:

• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks

• Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS)?

• Familiar with Cloud based infrastructure and operations automating processes, build software tools, and create infrastructure-as-code solutions in a Cloud based DevOps environment.

• Familiar with observability tools (ElasticSearch or Splunk preferred)

• knowledge of Linux/UNIX OS (Red Hat or CentOS Linux 6 or 7)

• Familiar with writing Java, C++, and other high-level language

• Familiar with scripting languages (e.g., shell, Perl, Python)

• This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships)

Desired Requirements:

• Familiar with core suite of AWS services related to DevOps, with particular depth in those that are heavily used when providing DevOps automation solutions, including the Management and Deployment services such as Terraform and IAM

• Familiar with the Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo)

• Familiar with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) a plus.

• Experience supporting software development teams, tools, and processes

• Experience implementing cloud security solutions using DevSecOps processes

• Experience optimizing cost for cloud hosted applications and services

• 1 year of experience writing Java, C++, and other high level language code

• 1 year experience with Perl, Python and shell scripts

• 1 year of experience in supporting development and sustainment of a large system in a Linux environment

Required Education:

Masters Degree by summer 2022 in a technical major, such as Computer Science or Engineering.
