Position Summary: The Electrical Chief Engineer serves as the senior technical authority for all electrical engineering initiatives, responsible for shaping and maintaining the electrical engineering strategy, standards, and future direction. This hands-on leadership role combines strategic oversight with active technical contribution, including electrical design, programming, and design approvals. The leader mentors a team of electrical engineers, ensuring engineering rigor, cross-functional collaboration, and alignment with performance, reliability, and regulatory standards. As a working manager, this individual plays a critical role in driving innovation, optimizing resource planning, and delivering high-quality, manufacturable solutions that support the company’s mission of excellence in capital equipment manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Execution & Technical Leadership

  • Directs technical execution of engineering projects across disciplines.
  • Leads design reviews, validates system architectures, and enforces best engineering practices.
  • Ensures solutions meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

Resource Planning & Cost Alignment

  • Plans and allocates engineering resources to meet project demands.
  • Balances team capacity with priorities to ensure cost and schedule alignment.
  • Monitors engineering effort and risk relative to project budgets.

Product Development & Delivery

  • Oversees development of engineering deliverables such as specifications, drawings, BOMs, and PLC/HMI logic.
  • Ensures system integration and manufacturability during development.
  • Supports validation, commissioning, and field performance assessments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Acts as the technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and leadership.
  • Collaborates with project managers to ensure technical execution supports project scope and timelines.
  • Communicates engineering status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Mentors engineers, designers, and technicians across disciplines.
  • Promotes technical growth, problem-solving, and shared learning.
  • Leads continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and standards.

Work environment: CMD is in Appleton, WI. Our three facilities operate by secure entry, are well lit, air temperature controlled for comfort, and clean with low noise. Safety is our top priority. Our culture is centered around mutual respect, clarity of communication, and employee wellbeing.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
  • Capacity to use standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, and videoconferencing.
  • Ability to navigate manufacturing floor environment, which may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods.
  • Capacity to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, and hard hat as needed.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to moderate levels of noise, vibration, and varying temperatures in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to follow health and safety guidelines and protocols including emergency procedures.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.

Status: Full-time, exempt.

Travel: Local or overnight travel may be required to visit a customer. Travel is planned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. 
  • 10+ years of experience in a highly technical engineering role such as Lead Engineer or Project Manager. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a capital equipment manufacturing environment. 
  • A demonstrated track of progressive leadership is required.
