Primary Job Function

Key leader role in the organization to provide technical expertise, oversight and guidance around the process engineering, plant/project engineering and environmental systems in order to ensure successful operation of process and facility.

Description of Responsibilities

  •  Manage Process Engineering and Plant/Project Engineering team with emphasis on driving capable processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives and teams utilizing Lean and Six Sigma concepts and tools.  Focus on safety, quality, and improved yield, uptime, and throughput.
  • Directly manage select key capital and continuous improvement projects.
  • Champion preventative maintenance, TPM, and predictive maintenance to improve uptime and equipment reliability.
  • Work with R&D and product management on new process and new product programs.     Provide operational and technical guidance.
  • Work with production departments, product management, and business leadership to develop annual capital project budget.
  • Coordinate process for capital project requests and corresponding change management efforts.
  • Adherence to project budget for the plant and to departmental expense budget.
  • Ensure compliance with EH&S regulations, policies, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO quality standards.
  • Lead professional development of engineering team.  Provide training and guidance to new employees.
  • Provide status reports and updates to executive staff and operations team.

• Accountable for compliance with Safety and Environmental regulatory standards and procedures

• Expertise on operation and troubleshooting of fume scrubbers, waste water neutralization, oxidizers, etc.

• Work with production and maintenance departments to determine root cause behind environmental excursions.

• Optimize operation of environmental systems including reduction of related downtime and reduction of chemical consumption; develop metrics to measure and track performance

• Develop real time predictive metrics on system performance

• Develop training programs for operators, maintenance and other personnel around the background and operation of environmental systems

• Familiarity with environmental permits and required reporting and their application to production operations

• Coordinate with HSE on environmental permits, excursions, investigations, etc.

Knowledge and Skills (Continued)

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering required.  Chemical Engineering preferred.

• Minimum of 10 years manufacturing processing experience required; chemical processing preferred.

• Prior experience managing a team preferred

• Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization in an open, clear and consistent    manner; invites response/dissent.

• Ability to lead problem solving efforts with teams of all levels.

• Comfortable with hands-on involvement with the teams in the plant.

• Business acumen including budgeting process, capital planning, and knowledgeable of P&L statements.

• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Solid Works is a plus.

• Strong functional knowledge of MS Office suite.

Working Conditions

Non climate-controlled factory environment, as well as Office environment;  Concrete flooring that may be slippery at times due to graphite. Frequent lifting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, stooping is required as part of this position. Exposure to audible and visual alarms, lights, etc. PPE may be required as appropriate.
