JOB DESCRIPTION: The Chemical Plant Senior Project Manager (CPSPM) manages the planning, design, coordination, support, and execution of major capital projects like expansions and upgrades. The CPSPM leads all large scale capital project execution procedures and activities within the Company. The CPSPM ensures the safety, quality, and effective delivery of major projects while providing technical expertise to Company management. The CPSPM is expected to manage major projects with limited supervision while leading strategies, tactics, and goals to continuously improve ResinTech’s program. The CPSPM reports to the Director of Manufacturing Operations, is located at Camden, NJ, U.S.A., and is not available for remote work. |
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY - Provide leadership and direction to ResinTech management relative to major projects while following project management best practices.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency and actively contribute to and support continuous improvement of that culture.
- Establish and maintain relationships with 3rd party Engineering Consultants, Contractors, and Specialty Contractors.
- Ensure OSHA regulations and other safety-related rules are adhered to and enforced during major project construction.
- Project Management
- Lead the entire project lifecycle, from initial scope and budget development to detailed planning, execution, and final closeout.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including external Consultants and Contractors.
- Ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures as well as safety and regulatory standards.
- Support Process Hazard Analyses, ensure technical resolution of all resultant recommendations, and ensure completion of all action items.
- Monitor and report on project progress, identifying and addressing any issues or risks. Conduct regular project reviews and provide updates to Ownership.
- Ensure that project objectives are met, and that required operability is achieved.
- Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with and coordinate various stakeholders, including Company Ownership, partner Company representatives, internal production and maintenance teams, and external Consultants, and Contractors. Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders and project team members.
- Safety and Compliance
- Champion and enforce safety guidelines and ensure all project activities comply with Company standards, regulations, and local ordinances.
- Budget and Schedule Management
- Develop, monitor and manage project budgets and forecasts.
- Develop, monitor and manage project schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective completion.
- Collaborate with Director of Manufacturing Operations, Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Operations Coordinator to coordinate construction activities into short, targeted outages and annual shutdowns.
- Technical Oversight
- Provide engineering support by reviewing designs, interpreting drawings, and troubleshooting technical issues throughout the project.
- Procurement and Contracts
- Prepare bid packages, evaluate proposals, select vendors, manage contract/service agreements.
- Construction
- Coordinate staffing and development of construction, commissioning, and start-up plans and assist operations in troubleshooting and optimization activities.
- Risk Management
- Identify potential project risks and develop and implement mitigation strategies.
- Documentation
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including engineering turnover packages, and ensure proper storage of all project files.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - 15+ years’ leadership experience in chemical (or similar) plant large capital project management roles combined with the technical knowledge, expertise, and experience required to manage all aspects of multi-million dollar projects. Proven track record of leading teams and managing large capital projects.
- Strong leadership skills with ability to lead, direct, mentor, and influence teams.
- Deep commitment to safety and integrity and a demonstrated record of accomplishment building a culture of safety, mitigating risk, and reducing incidents and accidents.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret safety procedures, including state and federal OSHA guidelines.
- Sound knowledge of chemical processing assets like reactors, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, process piping, and utility equipment like boilers, air compressors, chillers, and cooling towers.
- Strong understanding of applicable codes, industry regulations, engineering principles, construction methods, project management principles, and relevant software is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend and use P&IDs, equipment and layout drawings, and technical drawings and specifications for chemical processes and equipment.
- Working knowledge of OSHA PSM and NJ TCPA with ability to participate and contribute to relevant reviews.
- Interpersonal skills (personal rapport and influence) necessary to collaborate effectively with internal peers.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, use available resources, meet deadlines, and communicate feedback clearly.
- Proficiency in identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of ResinTech personnel with the ability to effectively promote ideas across the organization, specifically to senior management.
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) as well as Project Management software, CAD software (like AutoCAD).
- B.S. degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE - Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications.
- Practical experience managing projects that expanded or constructed process units regulated by OSHA PSM program or equivalent (e.g. N.J. TCPA).
- Working knowledge of instrumentation and electrical systems.
- Working knowledge of basic process control systems.
- Ability to comprehend and use electrical drawings and schematics.
- Working knowledge of PLCs and DCSs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to be trained in respirator use and confined space entry.
- Must be able to climb stairs/ladders and work at elevated heights.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - 50% Office setting, 50% production plant area.
