The Chemical Operatoris responsible for safely executing batch production processes within a manufacturing environment, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and operational standards. This role involves operating and monitoring processing equipment, such as reactors, tanks, and material-handling systems, while accurately charging raw materials and controlling process conditions, including temperature, pressure, and levels. The operator maintains detailed production records; packages finished goods and customer specifications; and supports material movement using manual methods and forklifts.
Chemical Operator Responsibilities:
- Safely operate equipment, including start-up, shutdown, and change-out of product. Equipment operated may include, but is not limited to, reactors, tanks, conveyors, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
- Cut open bags to make batches.
- Charge raw materials as per batch steps.
- Monitor and adjust controls to regulate tank and reactor levels, temperature, and pressure.
- Record detailed and accurate reactor conditions on the batch sheet.
- Package final product in bags, drums, or supersacks as per customer and company guidelines.
- Move product bags and drums manually and/or with a forklift.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Perform routine housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe workstation.
- Observe safety precautions to prevent chemical reactions. Report product and machine malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
Chemical Operator Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Basic mathematical calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to manually lift, push, and move up to 50 lbs. throughout the shift.
- Able to wear a negative-pressure elastomeric seal respirator.
- Chemical and/or Powder Machine Operator experience preferred.
