Position Overview
A manufacturing company in South Beloit, IL is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support welding quality and inspection activities within its manufacturing operation. The CWI will be responsible for inspecting welded products and components throughout the manufacturing process and verifying compliance with applicable drawings, welding procedures, specifications, codes, and quality requirements.
This is a hands-on, plant-based position that will work directly with welders, production, engineering, and quality personnel. Responsibilities will include weld inspection, welder qualification testing, NDT/NDE activities, dimensional inspection, nonconformance reporting, and final product inspection.
Primary Responsibilities
-Perform inspection of welds and welded components during production and final inspection.
-Verify welds meet applicable drawings, welding procedures, specifications, codes, and acceptance criteria.
-Review welding procedures and related quality documentation.
-Identify weld defects, discontinuities, and other quality concerns.
-Perform or coordinate applicable NDT/NDE activities.
-Prepare inspection reports and nonconformance documentation.
-Verify required repairs and rework have been properly completed.
-Maintain inspection, testing, calibration, certification, and quality records.
Key Requirements
-Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
-Previous welding inspection experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or industrial environment.
-Knowledge of welding processes, procedures, inspection requirements, and common weld defects.
-Ability to interpret welding symbols, fabrication drawings, WPS documentation, specifications, and applicable codes.
-Experience performing visual weld inspection and documenting results.
-Experience using dimensional inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and thickness gauges.
-Ability to identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming welds or fabricated components.
-Comfortable working directly with welders and production personnel in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Experience
-Heavy steel fabrication or welded product manufacturing.
-Steel pipe, pressure vessels, tanks, structural steel, bridge fabrication, or similar products.
-Welder and welding operator qualification testing.
-NDT/NDE experience with VT, MT, PT, UT, and/or RT.
-Level I or Level II NDT/NDE certification.
-Familiarity with ASNT SNT-TC-1A.
-Experience working with AWS, ASME, AWWA, API, or similar welding and fabrication standards.
-Nonconformance reporting and corrective action documentation.
-Additional NDT/NDE, coatings, concrete, or inspection certifications.
