Job Description

Position summary: Responsible for safe and efficient transportation of equipment (material handling, constructions, and/or industrial cleaning) to and from our customers or other sites.

General Purpose: To support our sales efforts by delivering or picking up equipment in a professional and timely manner and helping us meet our commitments to our customers or potential customers.

Role qualifications:

• Must partner with rental, service, and sales teams to ensure transportation needs are met.
• Must comply with systems and controls to ensure compliance with safety policies, rules, and governmental regulations.

Position responsibilities:

• Deliver or pick up equipment or products for runs assigned to you.
• Responsible for safe and secure loading of equipment or products.
• Responsible for daily safety and operating check of truck and trailer.
• Obtain customer signature on shippers.
• Complete delivery or pickup paperwork as required, submit to office daily.
• Complete timecards with time specific to each run.
• Complete daily driver log as required by DOT.
• Make sure loads are within legal weight limits.
• Report all repairs needed (for transportation equipment) to immediate supervisor.
• Inform supervisor if any mechanical or physical problems are detected on equipment being transported.
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Essential skills and experience:

• Must hold valid CDL class A (Tractor/Trailer) or class B (Tilt Bed) driver’s license with HazMat endorsement.
• Must have good driving record, per policy.
• Must be licensed to operate powered industrial equipment.
• Must present professional image to customers or prospective customers.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations as apply to our trucking
• Must be safety conscious at all times.
• Commitment to company vision and mission

Nonessential skills and experience:

• Awareness of lean business principles

Physical demands: Tractor-trailer drivers for Wolter, Inc. drive typically on a 1st shift basis, core hours 7:00AM to 3:30PM. Overtime is needed occasionally to meet customer delivery requirements. Hours are kept within the State DOT guidelines.

Drivers haul loads that are primarily comprised of material handling equipment and some construction equipment, as well as peripheral equipment. Examples: Forklift trucks, aerial equipment, scissor lifts, skid steer loaders, industrial batteries and chargers – other items may be hauled as requested.

In order to perform as a tractor-trailer driver for Wolter, Inc., the employee must be able to sit for long periods of time (driving time in some cases can be several hours). Must be able to communicate via phone and CB radio. Requires frequent walking, standing, kneeling, reaching (sometimes above shoulders) with hands and arms, balancing, stooping, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Must be able to talk and listen to customers or co-workers. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

Work environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to noisier shop environments and may be exposed to unusual environments at customer sites. When performing duties of this job, it is a requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment whenever appropriate.
