Salary Range:    $65,000.00


The instructor is responsible for training non CDL license holders to obtain their CDL Permit and Class A license. The instructor will also train current Pioneer Class B license holders to obtain their Class A license. During the 90-day probationary period, the instructor is responsible for the successful on-boarding of all Pioneer drivers. Instructor will assist in safety training and accident investigation. Instructor will work with the management team to hire and retain drivers.. Instructor will lead Smith System class sessions for all Pioneer drivers.

This role requires strong training skills, flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work harmoniously with all levels of internal management, staff, and outside clients if required.


  • Prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel activities
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws, policies, and school regulations
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students and colleagues regarding student progress and needs
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLLS & ABILITES - The technical skills, formal education, and relevant work experience critical for successful individual performance of Essential Functions:

  • Must possess a class A CDL
  • Proficient driving an 18-speed manual transmission
  • Skilled at training behind-the-wheel with corresponding technology
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities
  • Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA guidelines
  • Working knowledge Microsoft office suite is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years’ Class A tractor & trailer driving experience 
  • Preferably at least 3 years driver training experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job as listed above
  • Smith System Trainer certification recommended
