Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Sonographer / Echocardiographer to perform high-quality diagnostic cardiac and vascular ultrasound examinations on patients and research participants. The ideal candidate will have strong adult cardiac echocardiography experience and be comfortable performing advanced cardiac studies, including stress echocardiograms, dobutamine stress echocardiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
The Sonographer will independently operate ultrasound equipment, obtain and evaluate diagnostic-quality images, communicate findings to physicians and cardiology staff, and support clinical research activities as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostic cardiac and vascular ultrasound examinations according to established protocols and clinical guidelines.
- Perform high-quality adult echocardiographic examinations independently.
- Perform stress echocardiograms, including dobutamine stress echocardiograms, according to established protocols.
- Perform transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) and assist with related cardiac imaging procedures.
- Perform and assist with 2D, M-Mode, Color Doppler, Doppler, and other echocardiographic imaging techniques as required.
- Perform Bubble Studies and other specialized cardiac ultrasound examinations.
- Obtain technically accurate images and measurements for physician interpretation.
- Evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic and research information to physicians and cardiology staff.
- Provide preliminary findings and reports for diagnostic assessments as appropriate.
- Collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to support accurate diagnosis and clinical decision-making.
- Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Perform vascular ultrasound examinations and other diagnostic studies according to established protocols.
- Assist with research activities, including collecting, documenting, and maintaining research data.
- Maintain accurate patient and examination documentation.
- Protect confidential patient and research information.
- Provide professional, compassionate, and respectful patient care.
- Review procedures and protocols and provide training, coaching, and guidance to junior-level Sonographers.
- Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and examination quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate's Degree in a related field required.
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in echocardiography and vascular sonography required.
- Strong adult cardiac echocardiography experience required.
- Hands-on experience performing stress echocardiograms required.
- Experience performing dobutamine stress echocardiograms strongly preferred/required based on assignment needs.
- Experience with TEE (Transesophageal Echocardiography) required.
- Ability to independently perform high-quality cardiac ultrasound examinations.
Certification
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification required.
- Certification must be through ARDMS or CCI.
- Candidates must have current certification/credentials appropriate for performing cardiac echocardiography.
Required Knowledge & Skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with complex adult cardiac cases.
- Extensive experience performing stress and dobutamine stress echocardiograms.
- Strong TEE experience.
- Experience in cardiovascular research or clinical research protocols.
- Experience training or mentoring junior-level Sonographers.
- Experience working in a cardiovascular laboratory, hospital, or academic/research environment.
