JOB SUMMARY: The Can Fab Operator assists workers engaged in fabrication of structural or sheet metal products by operating machines that cut, shape, and form metal and plastic material or pieces.  This position will operate and load machines with materials, adjust machines speeds during production, and inspect the parts of the machine.


  • Lifts, positions, and removes work pieces from machines.
  • Holds tape and rods and marks reference points to assist in layout.
  • Loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
  • Prepares materials for fabrication, welding, or shipping by removing all burrs, sharp edges and chamfers as needed per print.
  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts, using hand tools and portable power tools.
  • Operate pemserter and install pems, rivets, screws and component parts to assemble products.
  • Cleans and maintains work area, machines, tools, and equipment on daily basis.
  • Verifies completion of work by signing off on work documentation.
  • Inspects and verifies that product conforms to specifications and that there are no cosmetic or surface defects.
  • Periodically assists in other production areas at the discretion of the Unit Manager or Supervisor.

  • Required to walk and use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • Able to lift, twist and bend with 30-50 pounds
  • Able to be on feet for extended periods of time
  • See clearly close up along with depth and distance perception
