Job Description Summary

The Calibration/ Metrology Technician at Okuma America Corporation is responsible for maintaining the Calibration System for the company to ensure that all measurements are valid and to maintain the highest possible quality of our product. This role will investigate and disposition suspect material and review, inspect, and approve first articles to help our suppliers take corrective action and provide us with quality components to reduce assembly time and ensure that quality is built into our machines. This position will also work with our distributors and customers during runoffs to meet customer requirements and support all departments concerning their Metrology needs.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities 
•    Responsible for all activities related to Okuma’s Measuring and Test Equipment Calibration Process.
•    Responsible for all activities related to Okuma’s Receiving Inspection Process.
•    Responsible for all activities related to Okuma’s Control of Non-Conforming Material and Metrology Processes.
•    Work with Engineers and customers to support all Metrology requirements for customer run-offs and measurement requests.
•    Responsible for the creation and maintenance of Departmental Training Matrices for Operations and Facilities and ensuring that all personnel are up to date with their OSHA training.
•    Assist Purchasing in the review of Supplier Self-Assessment forms and making visits to perspective Suppliers to review Supplier capabilities in order to help with choosing Suppliers for Okuma America Production and Service parts.
•    Adheres to all company employment policies and safe practices.
•    Performs other duties as assigned and explores opportunities to add value.
•    Analyze data to identify defects or determine calibration requirements.
•    Conduct calibration tests to determine performance or reliability of mechanical or electromechanical equipment.
•    Develop new calibration methods or techniques based on measurement science, analyses, or calibration requirements.
•    Disassemble and reassemble equipment for inspection.
•    Maintain or repair measurement devices or equipment used for calibration testing.
•    Order replacement parts for malfunctioning equipment.
•    Ability to draw parts in CAD for CMM capabilities / measurements.
•    Plan sequences of calibration tests according to equipment specifications and scientific principles.
•    Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical measuring techniques.
•    Verify part dimensions or clearances using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specifications.
•    Visually inspect parts for surface defects.
•    Write and submit reports about the results of calibration tests.
 

 

Qualifications


Experience/Training/Education

  • High School or Equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in engineering, a 2-year BSET or Trade School. (Preferred)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

General:

  • Must effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.

Technical:

  • Knowledge of inspection processes, blueprint reading, inspection equipment usage, (including hand tools, Form Equipment, and CMM), ISO standards, GD&T, thermodynamics, Quality Control, frequent interactions with others,(including Suppliers, Distributors and Customers).
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD).

Communication:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as exceptional listening skills.
  • Exceptional ability to speak and write effectively in a business environment.
  • Exceptional ability to ask necessary questions.

Math & Reasoning:

  • PC and Software usage, Geometry, Physics and Mathematics knowledge is required, as well as knowledge of manufacturing processes and their limitations.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and willingness to adapt to change and take initiative.

Physical and Environmental Elements

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit continuously for approximately 1/4 of normal work shift, and stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for at least 3/4 of the normal work shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, crouch and reach.
  • Ability to talk or hear continuously.
  • Ability to see clearly to do all work-related tasks (clear or corrected vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Finger dexterity is required frequently for over 3/4 of the normal work shift including operating a phone, computer/ electronic equipment, tools, wire strippers, crimp tools, soldering iron, a pallet jack, and a forklift.

Work Environment:

  • The majority of the position’s functions are performed in the Okuma calibration room that is temperature and humidity controlled.
  • The employee works in an open warehouse area where temperatures may be subject to outdoor conditions in terms of cold and heat. There is exposure to various tools and equipment as well as forklift operations and corresponding noise levels.
  • Works in an area around airborne water-based cleaners, industrial solvents, and aerosol paints and will use standard PPE.
  • A large portion of the position’s functions will be performed in the calibration room with standard equipment and moderate noise levels (examples: computers, printers, light traffic, and phone).

Special Requirements

  • Maintain annual OSHA safety certifications as required by job duties.
  • Driving record that is insurable.
  • Live within a commutable distance of the corporate office.
