FLSA Status: Exempt

Schedule: 8 Hour shifts – Starting at 7:00am - extended hours may be required to support business needs

Position Summary

The CAD Draftsman is responsible for the day-to-day CAD and print work that supports Marson's tube forming and laser operations. This includes converting customer models into usable SolidWorks parts, generating unbent (flat) tube laser files using TubeWorks, building production prints for both bent and unbent tubes, and creating 3D models from customer 2D prints. This role works closely with the Manufacturing Engineers, Quality, and Production to keep accurate, released prints and laser files flowing to the floor. The ideal candidate is fast, accurate, and detail-oriented, with strong SolidWorks skills and an understanding of how tube parts are bent and cut.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Convert customer 3D models (STEP, IGES, Parasolid, native) into clean, usable SolidWorks models, repairing imported geometry as needed.
  • Use the TubeWorks add-in for SolidWorks to unbend tube models, generate centerlines, and produce unbent (flat) tube files for laser cutting.
  • Generate and verify bend data (XYZ and LRA) for tube bending setups.
  • Create detailed production prints for both bent and unbent tubes, including bend data tables, cut lengths, hole and feature locations, tolerances, and material callouts.
  • Build 3D models from customer 2D prints, verifying all dimensions and features against the customer drawing.
  • Revise models and drawings to reflect customer engineering changes and internal redlines, maintaining revision control in SOLIDWORKS PDM.
  • Check customer prints for missing, conflicting, or non-manufacturable information and flag issues to the Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Support Quoting and Costing with models, cut lengths, part weights, and bend counts for new and revised parts.
  • Maintain drawing templates, title blocks, part numbering, and CAD/PDM standards.
  • Answer print-related questions from Production and Quality, including first-article support.
  • Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

Education, prior work experience and specialized skills and knowledge:

  • Associate's degree in Drafting & Design, CAD, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Must have SolidWorks experience (parts, assemblies, drawings; weldments and sheet metal a plus).
  • 2+ years of CAD drafting experience in a manufacturing environment; tube, sheet metal, or metal fabrication preferred.
  • Experience with TubeWorks or other tube unbending/bend data software is a plus.
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS PDM or similar data management/revision control systems is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of tube bending concepts (centerline radius, bend allowance, springback, XYZ/LRA data) preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer blueprints, specifications, and GD&T.
  • Experience importing and repairing neutral CAD files (STEP, IGES).
  • Proficient with Windows and MS Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in high-volume drawing work.
  • Ability to manage multiple jobs, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills across departments.

Physical environment/work conditions:

The position is primarily office-based with regular time on the production floor. Could involve sitting at a computer for long periods, plus standing, walking, and occasional lifting.

Must maintain confidential information (e.g., customer contacts, sales information, designs, etc.)

Must be able to work as part of a team.
