The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is seeking applicants for a Building Services Technician at the ISU Dairy. This position is critical to maintaining the functionality, safety, and biosecurity of the ISU Dairy Farm’s facilities and equipment in support of research, teaching, and production.
Key Responsibilities include:
Performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on farm buildings, including milking parlors, barns, offices, and storage facilities
Repairing structural components such as doors, windows, roofing, and siding
Maintaining plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems
Monitoring and maintaining building-related equipment such as water heaters, ventilation systems, lighting, and backup generators
Assisting with the installation and troubleshooting of new equipment and systems
Maintaining and repairing farm equipment including feed mixers, tractors, skid steers, telehandlers, and manure management systems
Keeping detailed records of maintenance and repairs for both facilities and equipment
This role also includes operating farm machinery such as tractors, skid steers, vacuum trucks, and farm trucks for harvesting and feeding purposes; using dairy-specific equipment including milking parlors and manure systems; promoting a strong culture of safety and assisting with student and staff training.

Ongoing academic and research activities bring new challenges and learning experiences daily. While the primary focus is on maintenance and repair, the role also provides regular involvement in research projects, such as configuring systems to meet specific study protocols.
