Summary of the Position:

The Biorepository Technician II will support the inventory and distribution of clinical trial samples. The technician performs activities to support daily sample management operations including (but not limited to): inventory tracking, processing, distribution, storage, preparation, withdrawal, and destruction of biological samples. This position requires work with clinical samples at temperatures below freezing in a regulated laboratory setting.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Technician is responsible for clinical sample receipt, identification verification, processing, shipping and storage
  • Processes large volumes of sample shipments received for multiple study protocols.
  • Can work independently or as part of a team
  • Can assist junior team members in sample management and train others in sample management process
  • Accurately prepares lab specimens and containers as required for testing for specific studies following Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP)
  • Must be able to prioritize workload in response to the specific needs of numerous protocols and department
  • Maintains an efficient, well organized laboratory, manages supplies, and maintains quality control programs
  • Able to identify issues and alert Manager for issue resolution.
  • Ensures accurate storage for all sample inventory utilizing LIMS
  • Prepare sample aliquots when needed and make deliveries to clients as required
  • Accurately prepares samples for outbound shipments to central labs for long term storage and will work closely with Clinical Samples Manager to support sample pick up
  • Organize and maintain quarantined samples distributions for testing
  • Keep management informed of day to day progress, including deviations from the established process
  • Performs internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects under the guidance of Clinical Samples Manager
  • Understands the Standard Operating Procedures and equipment associated with his/her duties

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Degree, Undergraduate biological science coursework or certificate preferred
  • 2-4 years’ work experience with data entry, shipping/receiving and sample handling/management in industry
  • Knowledge of methods to handle, process, and store biospecimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system (LIMS)
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately; meet schedules and timelines, and handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Must have good attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents for up to 6 hours per day
  • Must use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols
  • Must be able to lift, push and carry up to 50lbs
  • Must be able to use a computer up to 6 hours per day
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form
  • Requires knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Word
  • Requires knowledge of Universal Precautions, GDP, GCLP
  • Previous experience with high throughput biorepository/laboratory is desirable
