Purpose:
The B- Furnace Operator will operate the reverberatory furnace and auxiliary equipment necessary to charge, refine, and cast copper furnace heats.
Essential Functions:
• Receives instructions from supervisor
• Checks with previous shift operator for status of furnace and metal; checks charge sheet
• Mixes mud for skim bay and charge doors
• Adjusts equipment and metal conditions as required
• Opens and closes doors during charging, poles; and seals charge doors
• Makes recordings of times (charge, refine, poling, slagging and casting)
• Prepares blow pipes and blows down furnace
• Poles down furnace as needed
• Performs refractory repairs; occasionally assists in cleaning spills, slag build ups, etc.
• Works with crew in patching, spraying, and repairing furnace
• Reports any and all break downs or furnace issue to supervisor and maintenance
• Maintains good housekeeping in work area
Physical Requirements:
• Walking or standing 80% of the shift
• Lifting, bending, pulling, and pushing required
• Lifting up to 55 pounds
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
• Must be able to operate mobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts and cranes
• Ability to organize material on machines as scheduled
• Must be able to work mandatory overtime as needed
• Must be able to work multiple shifts as needed
• Read micrometers, calipers and other measurement devices
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Basic computer skills
• Manufacturing experience preferred
