SUMMARY OF POSITION:


The Quality Technician is responsible for performing precision mechanical inspection of machined parts, incoming materials, and in‑process components to verify compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and internal requirements. This role places a strong emphasis on accurate data parsing, data collection, and structured documentation to support First Article Inspections (FAI), Final Inspection Reports (FIR), and ongoing quality analytics. The technician ensures conformance through the use of calibrated measuring instruments, visual inspection techniques, and adherence to company work instructions and process travelers. Off‑shift, weekend, and holiday work may be required based on business needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Data Collection & Inspection Reporting

  • Collect, parse, and organize measurement data for First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
  • Gather, verify, and enter data required for Final Inspection Reports (FIR), ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Maintain detailed logs, databases, and digital quality records in accordance with company documentation standards.
  • Identify trends, discrepancies, or abnormalities in collected data and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Ensure all inspection and measurement data is complete, correctly formatted, and aligned with customer and regulatory requirements.

Inspection & Verification

  • Perform precision mechanical inspections of machined parts and materials using calibrated tools and visual inspection methods.
  • Conduct proving in‑process inspections during manufacturing operations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Inspect in‑house and outsourced in‑process production parts for dimensional accuracy and specification adherence.
  • Perform incoming inspections of purchased parts and outgoing inspections for proper packaging and conformance.
  • Review routers and travelers to confirm that all prior operations have been completed and signed off.
  • Complete Discrepant Material Reports (DMRs) for any rejected or nonconforming parts.
  • Execute surface plate and comparator setups for dimensional evaluations.
  • Perform basic CMM alignment and manual CMM measurements.

Technical Interpretation

  • Interpret customer drawings, specifications, engineering notes, and GD&T callouts.
  • Apply basic blueprint reading and shop math, including trigonometry, to verify part compliance.
  • Reference company work instructions, quality processes, and inspection standards consistently.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Adhere to company quality policies, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 5–7 years of related quality inspection experience, preferably in machining, aerospace, or automotive industries
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T (preferred)
  • Experience with CMM operation (preferred)
  • Proficient in visual inspection techniques
  • Ability to correctly use and interpret common precision measuring instruments, including:
    • Height gauges
    • Micrometers
    • Calipers
    • Gauge blocks
    • Thread gauges
    • Comparative standards
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent data accuracy and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain focus in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment


PREFERRED TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
