DESCRIPTION:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering department and their activities. The Engineering Manager will establish priorities and provide technical guidance to the engineering manufacturing staff and other functional departments ensuring compliance to customer and corporate requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Lead processing and manufacturing of development components to meet customer needs
- Develops, selects, implements, and evaluates engineering techniques and solutions to solve difficult problems and improve manufacturing methods.
- Initiates, recommends, and provides solutions for process optimization to improve reliability and reduce COPQ.
- Ensures all products/processes are designed with the six-sigma philosophy – DFSS.
- Ensures successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
- Communicates clearly with production staff, engineers, and management to achieve goals.
- Identifies and drives continuous improvement projects from concept to completion.
- Ensures engineering standards and codes are met on all projects.
- Analyzes and reports complex engineering data at audience appropriate level.
- Provides leadership for safety and the environment.
- Monitors process efficiency and material consumption to ensure maximum performance and uptime is achieved.
- Supports timely, accurate, and competitive quotes of potential new business.
- Determines the processes, identifies the materials and supplies to be used, and designs and builds appropriate fixtures necessary for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.
- Creates new part numbers based on customer specifications and established standards and adds new parts into the part master file of the MRP system.
- Establishes bills of material, manufacturing routings, machine burdens, and new work centers.
- Creates assembly instructions for new products to be manufactured.
- Studies and records time, motion, methods and speed involved in performance of production and other worker operations to establish standard production rates and to improve efficiencies. Institutes changes in the production processes and/or recommends adjustments to product pricing.
- Performs engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturing standards, engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications.
- Confers with customers and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to insure efficient production methods.
- Confers with vendors to determine part specifications and recommends the purchase of equipment and materials used in manufacturing and production.
- Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for management decisions.
- Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Interacts with all factory employees, appropriate management and operations personnel, and other department personnel. Communicates with the Engineering Director to obtain instruction, assistance, and communicate concerns.
- Understand the importance of designing, building, and operating safe systems. Basic knowledge and understanding of basic safety work processes such as JSA’s and MOC’s.
- Demonstrate commitment in the successful EH&S management of chemical processes and facilities.
- Implement the Company’s environmental, health and safety programs in all departments/units within their respective operations.
- Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001) as applicable.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, professional and regulatory agency standards, and licensure requirements.
- Demonstrated commitment in the successful EH&S management of chemical processes and facilities.
- Responsible for the outgoing quality, safety and efficacy of all finished products and compliance with current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs), environmental health and safety (EHS) guidelines and any other regulations that may apply.
- Implements and maintains programs to improve the safety, productivity, and profitability of the Area; Ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT)/Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and other Federal and State regulations.
- Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
- Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following-up with consistent discipline and retraining.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7-10 years of experience in Engineering and the manufacturing industry
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common industrial, manufacturing, and technical procedures, professional journals, schematics, diagrams, drawings, and blueprints.
- Able to write reports, business correspondence, assembly instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to appropriately respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or other members of the manufacturing community.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or company employees.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
