SIGN-ON BONUS: $1,500 Sign (1/2 after 30 days, 1/2 after 90 days)

Position Description:


Responsible for the safe and efficient operational shift activities at the COVANTA TULSA FACILITY. The facility is a Waste-to-Energy plant, which takes non-hazardous waste – otherwise destined for the landfill – and combusts it to generate steam for a nearby refinery and electricity for the local power company. Ash is processed to recover metal for recycling while all gases are collected, filtered, and cleaned before being released safely into the atmosphere.

With direction from the Shift Supervisor, the coordination and direction of all auxiliary operator activities including fuel mixing, receiving and storage.

Performing the required activities of the auxiliary operator which includes the operation, performance of the WTE plant, inspections, hopper clearing, operations of MSW fuel handling crane and preventative maintenance plant components.

  • Maintaining high professional, personnel and equipment safety and environmental consciousness of compliance standards and practices.
  • Maintain environmental compliance conditions.
  • Perform other assigned independent, team, or shift tasks such as system expert, industrial safety program activities, routing maintenance tasks, housekeeping, and general facility preservation, etc.
  • Assist in developing and refining operational policies and procedures.
  • Assist in identifying and contributing to plant or profit improvement projects.
  • Respond quickly to plant conditions or requirements, which may involve extended and/or abnormal work hours.

Reports to the Shift Supervisor for all shift activities

Position Requirements:


  • At least a high school graduate or equivalency, with 1-year experience preferred in operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Additional background/skills in a maintenance or technical discipline such as engineering, mechanic, electrician, or instruments and controls.
  • Ability to qualify and maintain qualifications as an auxiliary operator. This includes the ability to distinguish between colors, ability to climb ladders and to be at heights of 100-120 feet, ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards, ability to perform maintenance procedures, and ability to “handle” quick changing situations under stress.
  • Ability to work extended hours if/when required.
  • Ability to perform and accept responsibility.
  • Working knowledge in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications.
  • Ability to productively work independently and as an overall integral plant staff team member.
