JOB SUMMARY:
The Automation/Controls Engineer designs, develops, troubleshoots, and continuously improves automated manufacturing systems, ensuring they operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This role collaborates with engineers, operators, and other departments to optimize system performance, resolve technical issues, and improve production processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- System Design and Development:
- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to design automation solutions based on project requirements.
- Develop and implement PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
- Assist with the design, programming, and integration of new automation systems or system updates.
- Maintain technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
- System Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Program, configure, test, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues, coordinating necessary repairs with maintenance.
- Define and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
- Continuously optimize system performance and reliability.
- Process Optimization:
- Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for performance, efficiency, and quality improvements.
- Implement control strategies to optimize process flow and reduce waste.
- Installation, Commissioning, and Support:
- Participate in the installation and integration of automated systems and new equipment.
- Provide technical support and training to operators and maintenance teams during and after system installation.
- Offer ongoing support for troubleshooting and resolving automation-related issues.
- Data Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor system performance using real-time data analysis, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Generate performance, downtime, and efficiency reports for management review.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all automated systems comply with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and recommend improvements to reduce hazards.
- Develop and enforce safety procedures and protocols for system operations.
- Assist in corrective actions related to equipment or automation injuries.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process and system improvements.
- Implement upgrades and modifications to enhance performance and reliability.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Training & Documentation:
- Provide training on control systems and troubleshooting procedures to production staff.
- Keep system documentation up to date.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PLC programming certification or related automation certifications.
- Experience with robotics, vision systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Prior experience in industrial automation or controls engineering is preferred.
SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and industrial automation technologies.
- Proficiency in HMI, SCADA systems, and data analysis tools.
- Experience with electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, and automation components.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
