POSITION TITLE: Automation Technician I or II 

SHIFT HOURS: 8:00am to 5:00pm (days)

LOCATION: Onsite at LSI Solutions in Victor, NY

PAY RANGE: $24.64 /hour to $37.00 /hour 

JOB SUMMARY: Supports Production Operations, Quality and Engineering with development, refinement and testing of machines, tooling and processes. Primary technical projects include automation, machine vision, robotics and application of other industrial manufacturing or inspection technology. Maintain equipment integrity through the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities, conducted within an ERP-environment.

SUPERVISES: N/A


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support new automation development projects with the execution of concept testing, programming, data collection and provide feedback from those efforts.
  • Support IQ, OQ, and PQ activities related to automated equipment for Engineering and Manufacturing Projects.
  • Analyze and report test results, using data manipulation, charting and statistical analysis.
  • Assist in construction and assembly of systems, controllers, machine elements and test fixtures.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and technology integration in equipment, process, and methods.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers on system concept, debug, pre-delivery qualifications (PDQ), problem resolution and improvement initiatives.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and determine root cause for manufacturing tooling performance issues.
  • Seek out and evaluate advanced technologies with application to current or future processing needs.
  • Maintain calibration and equipment functionality through PM and MSA activities in an ERP environment.
  • Work with Engineers to refine PLC, HMI, Vision, and Robot programs on existing equipment.



ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in training Production staff as well as continuing support of implemented systems, as needed.
  • Review and Update PM work instructions for manufacturing equipment and fixtures.
  • Fabricate or modify components, fixtures, control systems and equipment, as necessary.



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Automation Technician Level I

  • AAS Engineering or Engineering Technology, trade certificate(s) or equivalent documented project work history.
  • 0-3 years of relevant work experience with industrial systems and technology application.
  • Knowledge of medical device technologies preferred.

Automation Technician Level II

  • AAS Engineering or Engineering Technology, trade certificate(s) or equivalent documented project work history.
  • 3-7 years of relevant work experience with industrial systems and technology application.
  • Knowledge of medical device technologies preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Automation Technician Level I

  • Familiarity with reading and understanding electrical and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Proficient in standard MS-Office. 
  • Familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD, Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks preferred.
  • Basic GD&T, print and electrical diagram reading skills.
  • Utilization of hand tools and working knowledge of fabrication processes and understanding machine tools, such as surface grinders, wire EDM, tool room lathe, and milling machine.
  • Familiarity with measurement equipment and processes.
  • Proficient in diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing equipment technologies such as Machine Vision, Programmable Logic Control (PLC), and Robotics.

Automation Technician Level II

  • All knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
  • High working knowledge of measurement equipment and processes.
  • Experienced diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Basic statistics, utilizing MS Excel or Minitab applications.
  • Familiarity in production statistics for manufacturing monitoring.
  • Proficient in Manufacturing equipment technologies such as Machine Vision, PLC, and Robotics.
  • Proficient in verbal and written technical communications.
  • Experience participating in machine qualifications.
