JOB TITLE: Automation Technician I
REPORTS TO: Automation Supervisor
FLSA: Non-exempt
JOB SUMMARY: This role builds and maintains automation systems to meet the needs of our internal and external customers. Responsibilities include building, troubleshooting and improving production and innovation automation systems. This role also plans and designs components and subsystems. Other responsibilities include creating training materials, mentoring and training others, supporting production processes, and solving problems as a part of multifunctional teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Replaces electrical components such as sensors, motors, etc.; fabricates cables and connectors; wires panels using schematics (backplane); mounts components using layouts (backplane); connects hardware to panel (field wiring).
- Properly use hand tools; properly uses measurement equipment.
- Marks up schematics; Documents changes to software settings in Azure.
- Maintains organized and standardized file structure; manages files on laptop computer and network locations; safely interacts with Windows and network locations.
- Navigates robot software; manipulates robots safely; updates source control properly; interprets logic flow in robot program to troubleshoot root cause.
- Navigates AVI software; monitors AVI performance; identifies reasons for defects; interprets logic flow in AVI program to troubleshoot root cause; understands common AVI software functions; updates source control properly.
- Navigates control software; monitors control input and output variables in software and on hardware; identifies machine issues using control program; updates source control properly.
- Completes project tasks as assigned; communicates progress to project leader.
- Follows safety procedures.
- Exhibits initiative and persistence to overcome obstacles in order to meet performance goals; Works with team well to accomplish goals.
- Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Education/Experience. High school education coursework or GED required. Two-year technical or associate degree in automation, robotics, electronics or related field and two years relevant control systems manufacturing experience preferred. Training in computer controls for industrial processes required.
- Computer Skills. Ability to operate personal computer. Ability to learn software required to perform job functions (i.e. PLC, HMI, camera, AutoCAD, and Solid Works software). Experience with Microsoft Office Products required.
- Language Skills. Proven written and oral communication skills necessary. Ability to read, comprehend, and utilize instructions and short correspondence with professionals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.
- Mathematical Skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratios, percent and use trigonometry. Ability to read and understand complicated designs and drawings.
- Reasoning Ability. Ability to solve technical issues and deal with a number of variables. Ability to follow and interpret verbal and written instructions.
- Other Skills and Abilities. Willingness to attend conferences or training to enhance and update knowledge and skills. Occasional travel may be requested for company business. Overtime may be required to meet work demands.
- Supervisory Responsibilities. Mentor and train employees learning automation techniques. Ability to direct work task to others if you are assigned the lead role in a project.
- Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to sit and stand. Frequent movement throughout the facility is required. Dexterity to perform computer operations and close vision acuity necessary. May be required to move or transport up to 55 lbs.
- Work Environment. The duties of this job are executed in a climate-controlled environment with few temperature or humidity extremes. Noise levels will vary from very low to moderate depending on the location that the work is performed within the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee may have contact with machining residues such as steel chips, grinding dust, EDM smoke, cutting oils and coolants. Safety glasses are required.
