Job Overview:

Overview

The Automation Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting automated production equipment. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports production, safety, and quality goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate automated cable assembly equipment
  • Monitor production and proactively resolve issues to reduce downtime
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system problems
  • Perform inspections and replace wear parts to maintain equipment performance
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams
  • Support equipment upgrades and new technology implementations
  • Assist with scrap reduction, efficiency improvements, and cost savings initiatives
  • Develop and maintain work instructions, preventive maintenance plans, and safety procedures
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or similar preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with automated or industrial equipment
  • Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMIs, and control systems required
  • Robotics experience preferred
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to identify root causes and implement solutions
  • Strong analytical thinking and hands-on problem solving
  • Comfortable working under deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Team-oriented with ability to work independently
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office)
  • Knowledge of IPC 620, wire processing, or automotive standards (USCAR, IATF) a plus

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing environment with standard noise levels
  • Frequent movement between work areas and equipment
  • Repetitive hand motion and ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • PPE required in production areas

  • 120/208/240/480 Voltage Systems
  • CAD Software
  • Troubleshooting Industrial Automation Equipment
  • PLC Programming Experience
  • Industrial Electrical Experience
  • Electrical Systems & Diagnostics (Heavy Equipment)

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • CAD Software (Siemens NX, Solidworks)
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) (Allen Bradley)
