Job Overview:

Job Title: Automation Technician  

Job Summary 

Automation Technicians have experience in a high-volume industrial manufacturing environment. Reporting to the maintenance manager, the Automation Technician will be responsible for maintaining and repairing automated machines. Under minimum supervision, the candidate must be able to troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on various robotic production equipment. Strong experience with PLC's, HMI’s, Robotics, automation and control system design and hands-on troubleshooting is preferred. Serve as a plant resource for line improvements, line automation, realignment of product flow equipment and machinery in conjunction with Engineering and Maintenance. 

Responsibilities 

Work with engineer team, set up and maintenance department to reduce costs by removing non-value-added material/movement from production lines.  

Work with program managers and project engineers during APQP stage of a program start-up.  

Plan assigned work efficiently to minimize machine downtime.  

Ensure automation projects are completed and ensure they operate efficiently and effectively.  

Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S principles.  

Work with engineering team using PPAP format to help resolve non-value-added processes.  

Ensure all new /rebuild equipment complies with CSA, OSHA, and Electrical Safety Code requirements.  

Participate in root cause analysis to identify and address failures.  

Perform scheduled backups of PLC and CNC programs.

Academic/Educational Requirements 

Technical College or University degree in electrical technology or mechatronics technology or equivalent expertise gained through professional experience, training, or certifications. 

1-3 Years of working experience within robotic cells or standalone robotic stations.  

Understanding of basic control and mechanical systems required 

 

Required Skills/Experience

Working knowledge of Industrial Electrical, Electronics & Automation Systems, Sensors, Drives, and Actuators  

Working knowledge of software preferred Robotics (RobotStudio/Handling Tool)  

Robot basic and special courses (ABB,Fanuc,Kuka)  

Simatic Manager Step 7  

Allen Bradley Logix 5000,Studio 5000  

MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, AutoCAD 2D & 3D skills
