JOB TITLE: Automation Technician
LOCATION: Engineering
REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager
FLSA: Non-exempt
JOB SUMMARY: Assists in evaluating, recommending, designing and implementing the use of electronic, electric and mechanical equipment built or operated at Accumold. Trains Production staff and Electronics Technicians on the proper operations and use of vision systems and machine controls.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design/install/update control systems for production and automation equipment and vision systems.
- Design/program/install control systems, and fully document operation manual for automation projects and production equipment.
- Continually evaluate current production equipment to maintain state-of-the-art control technologies.
- Perform routine machine maintenance. Provide mechanical, electrical and production support.
- Mechanical design and installation of machine components.
- Other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Education/Experience. High school education coursework or GED required. Two-year technical or associate degree in electronics or related field and two years relevant control systems manufacturing experience preferred. Training in computer controls for industrial processes required.
- Computer Skills. Knowledge of manufacturing and design software such as Auto-CAD, Solid Works or PLC Programming. Experience with Microsoft NT, Windows 2000, and Microsoft Office Products useful.
- Language Skills. Proven written and oral communication skills necessary. Ability to read, comprehend, and utilize instructions and short correspondence with professionals. Ability to effectively communicate information to other employees, suppliers, and customers regarding technical issues.
- Mathematical Skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to solve problems requiring the use of geometry and/or trigonometry. Ability to read and understand specification drawings.
- Reasoning Ability. Ability to solve technical issues and deal with a number of variables. Ability to follow and interpret verbal and written instructions.
- Other Skills and Abilities. Willingness to attend conferences, classes or training to enhance and update knowledge and skills. Occasional travel may be requested for company business. Overtime may be required to meet demands.
- Supervisory Responsibilities. Oversee projects involving electronic or electrical systems. Mentor and train employees learning automation techniques.
- Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to sit and stand. Frequent movement throughout the facility is required. Dexterity to perform computer operations and close vision acuity necessary. May be required to move or transport up to 55 lbs.
- Work Environment. The duties of this job are executed in a climate-controlled environment with few temperature or humidity extremes. Noise levels will vary from very low to moderate depending on the location that the work is performed within the office, production area or tool room.
