Our “Automation Sales Engineers” are Innovative-IDM’s go-between with our clients to help them find better solutions to their current challenges. These engineers are comfortable in social settings, enjoy working with others and prefer exposure to numerous industries, businesses, and technologies versus being siloed into one industry.


Our ASEs find themselves onsite at customer locations dozens of times each week sharing the newest automation tech, helping solve problems, or following up on on-going projects. We’re talking about manufacturing plants, factories and assembly lines that use robotics, PLCs, motion control, motor drives, and other innovative technologies we provide.


This business generation role is best suited for people who like winning. An ASE often uncovers ideas and solutions while in competition with others. It’s this competition and desire to win that excites and motivates the best ASEs. This type of position is known by several names in our company and others: Territory Manager, Sales Engineer, and Automation Engineer Consultant are but a few.

Job Duties:

  • Find and develop new customers.
  • Maintain and grow existing customers.
  • Weekly phone work to setup face-to-face appointments.
  • Learn and understand Innovative's products well enough to solve customer applications.
  • Product presentations and joint sales calls with vendor reps.

  • Experience with using the phone to gain face-to-face appointments.
  • Experience selling higher-priced products than your competition in a highly competitive industry.
  • Experience selling complex solutions.
  • Must be good at prospecting and closing.
  • Experience in a technical industry is preferable.
  • Engineering degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial.
  • 3+ years sales experience desired.
  • Experience with Dynamics a plus.
  • Experience with MS Office products.
