Job Summary:

 

The Automation Process Engineer’s primary job function is to implement and maintain the on-line and off-line gauging and inspection systems for manufacturing and to continuously improve their capabilities. These efforts are designed to drive continuous improvement by proactively identifying quality issues and maximizing equipment output (yield, OEE).

 


 

Essential Functions:

  • Promote a safe work environment for associates utilizing on-line gauging and inspection systems through review of existing manufacturing practices and implementation of any improvement deemed appropriate by EHS and Manufacturing Supervision.
  • Serves as custodian for on-line and off-line gauging and inspection systems. Maintain product recipes and ensure periodic maintenance is performed as required.
  • Leads efforts to qualify new recipes for equipment and/or products to drive continuous improvement in product quality and equipment output.
  • Interacts on plant floor with internal customer to optimize processes/recipes for commercial products.
  • Develop and implement overall business strategy related to online gauging and inspection systems.
  • Provide training and technical support as needed to system users.
  • Document internal non-conformances, performing root cause analysis with appropriate corrections 
  • Monitor all online gauging and inspection system equipment to ensure that is in good working order, coordinating any required correction with maintenance or manufacturing supervision. 
  • Review and update system procedures as needed to ensure quality and operational compliance.
  • Execute projects to update hardware and software as required to ensure systems operate at peak performance. 
  • Write change controls, user requirements, functional specifications, equipment and product qualification protocols, validation testing, and technical reports as needed.
  • Perform and maintain gauge R&R studies for online and off-line gauging and inspection systems as needed.
  • Partner with Quality, Engineering and Operations teams to drive increased capability of systems.
  • Interface with external equipment vendors, engineering companies, contractors, and customers.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Apply expertise in other automation technologies to improve AR manufacturing processes and support the business strategy. 
  • Actively pursue a strong understanding of the manufacturing processes and operations techniques 

used at AR and the coating industry.

  • Conduct all aspects of position in a professional, respectful manner consistent with AR Guiding Principles; embraces 6S LEAN culture; organizes personal work areas and appearance consistent with corporate and divisional professional image.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customers, vendors, and sister companies as periodically as required. 
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s  degree or higher preferred in an Engineering discipline, preferably Electrical Engineering or equivalent previous experience.
  • Minimum of  2 years experience in manufacturing or industry setting
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must be flexible to work different shifts as required by assignments
  • Computer literacy with good working knowledge in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Computer literate with proficiency in automation systems
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, concepts and methodology, and ability to apply them to relevant situations and problem solving
  • Mixing, coating, drying, web handling, or slitting operations and equipment experience is a plus.
  • Six Sigma certification is a plus
  • Experience in calibration and qualification of equipment is a plus
