JOB SUMMARY

The Automation Engineering Specialist 1 supports Product Development and Engineering through building fixtures and automating product testing. The fixture development and automation team designs, builds, and automates the mechanical and electrical systems of new and existing test lab fixtures. Developing mechanical mechanisms, generating mechanical assemblies (CAD), programming (PLCs, Robots, etc.), wiring, and debugging are the normal tasks that are done on a regular basis. An ideal candidate has a strong aptitude for developing mechanical and electrical solutions based on a given challenge or requirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES / SKILLS

  • Basic technical skills and ability to work as member of cross-functional new product teams.
  • Beginner in the use of typical lab equipment (Multimeters, Various Instrumentation, Power Supplies, Data Acquisition Systems, Power Analyzers, etc.).
  • Ability to assemble mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Basic machining skills.
  • Basic understanding of circuits/electronics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including one-on-one communication skills and technical report writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively with internal and external resources.
  • Demonstrated project management skills -- must be organized and pay excellent attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, & Power Point.
  • Team player with a positive approach to problem solving.
  • Creative yet practical problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong planning skills with sense of urgency.
  • Strong analytical and interpretative skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • AS degree (preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, or a similar/equivalent field experience with a preference for electrical knowledge and experience
  • Basic knowledge in 3D CAD software, Solidworks or NX preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of data acquisition, as well as PLC and HMI programming (National Instruments, Allen-Bradley, and Mitsubishi preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of Ignition or other SCADA preferred
  • Basic knowledge of LabView preferred
  • Mechanically inclined, strong problem-solving skills, hands-on individual
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel 5%

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: if applicable, select one & change pounds

Maintain stationary position around 50% of time for computer work.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds on occasion.

Regular talking and hearing.

Regular typing on a keyboard.

Frequent standing and walking indoors and outdoors.

Occasional stooping and bending.
