Job Overview:

A certified, highly respected custom industrial automation systems integrator in the Waukesha County area is hiring an Automation Engineer to design, program and commission ABB robotic work cells and programmable logic controller (PLC)-driven automation systems. Engineering design and physical machine assembly sit under one roof — no repetitive production-line work.

Instead of running the same cycle every day, you would design and build custom, leading-edge machinery for a diversified global client base, watching your virtual simulations become fully operational systems down the hall.

What you would do

  • Develop, write and optimize Robot Application Programming Language (RAPID) code and RobotStudio simulations to integrate ABB robotic arms with master programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and plant-wide automation systems

  • Lead full-lifecycle custom machine projects, from system design and kinematics simulation through floor build and physical debugging

  • Configure electrical communication setups, fieldbus protocols (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET) and software handshakes for ABB robotic packages and end-of-arm tooling

  • Troubleshoot pathing errors, cycle-time bottlenecks, mechanical interference and control-logic issues on the build floor and in the field

  • Travel up to 30% domestically and internationally to lead installations, site acceptance testing and customer sign-offs

  • Author system logic documentation, sequence-of-operation manuals and electrical schematic redlines

What you need

  • 5+ years programming ABB robots, including 2+ years focused on RAPID programming and RobotStudio simulation

  • 2+ years practical PLC development and ladder-logic programming on Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Studio 5000 or an equivalent major industrial controller

  • A working foundation in industrial motion control, vision-guided systems and safety networks (light curtains, safety relays, SafeMove)

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics or Mechatronics (or equivalent hands-on systems-integration experience in place of a degree)

  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% of the time, with a valid U.S. passport or the ability to obtain one immediately

  • Local residency within a comfortable daily commute of Waukesha County / Greater Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Details

  • $120,000 base pay

  • Full corporate health and retirement benefits package

  • Onsite in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, with up to 30% travel

  • Direct hire, one opening

You should be proficient in:

  • Industrial Robot Programming
  • Electrical Installation
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Electrical / Electronic Systems
  • Industrial Electrical Experience
  • Industrial Electrical Systems
  • Robot Application Programming Language
  • RobotStudio simulations

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)
  • Industrial Robot
