Description
The Automation Engineer conducts technical activities related to automation of production equipment according to the planning and priorities established by the Engineering department. This position will also be expected to troubleshoot, support and improve current and new automation systems. This includes the ongoing evaluation and upgrading of existing automation and control systems as well as the design and development of new automation and control systems to meet Company and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uses knowledge of technique and method such as automation (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, Data Historian), engineering and project management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve day to day equipment problems.
- Analyze processes and equipment to determine requirements, including consideration of function, reliability, maintenance, cost, and safety.
- Design new control systems, including PLC, SCADA and SQL Database design, oversee the fabrication and installation.
- Plan and execute projects or continuing programs which include the specification, purchase, compliance with applicable codes and installation of new automation/control systems.
- Design and implement modifications to existing heat treat, plating, heat transfer, material handling systems, etc.
- Resolve problems during the startup of new equipment and processes and establish routine operating parameters.
- Complete and/or update mechanical, electrical, electronic and architectural AUTOCAD drawings needed for building and equipment documentation.
- Defines, measures and analyzes data in order to set the appropriate technical specifications as well as key performance metrics.
- Develop documentation, operating manuals, and training aids for production equipment throughout the Company.
- Purchase materials for various engineering department activities, particularly new control system fabrication and installations and special maintenance concerns throughout the Company.
- Travel to remote locations. Travel rate is expected to be about 30% but could vary.
- Ability to travel internationally.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3-year work experience in control systems.
- Must have a strong knowledge of automation and control systems including PLC, SCADA, SQL Server, VBA, and HTML5.
- Must have a working knowledge of mechanical systems including design and maintenance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be proficient in Wonderware Archestra.
- Proficiency using Oracle systems, a plus.
License(s)/Certification(S) Required:
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record in compliance with Paulo’s Vehicle Use Policy.
