Position Summary

As an Automation Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing automation systems to enhance our manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will have a strong background in control systems, PLC programming, and HMI development. Skills related to robotics, machine vision, safety components, as well as integrated inspection systems will be highly beneficial. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on challenging projects and contribute to the advancement of our automation capabilities.

**Key Responsibilities **

  • Develop electrical design, schematics and drawings in AutoCAD

  • Interpret mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements

  • Research supplier products for assembly components

  • Help establish new and maintain existing standards

  • Develop electrical bill of materials

  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware per application specifications

  • Check quality of assemblers/technicians work and assist during assembly

  • Work with Sales Engineers to provide input with quote preparation as required

  • Design and develop software applications based on specifications or new concepts

  • Understand client requirements for HMI/communication interface, networking and create specifications based on these requirements

  • Review, modify and redesign legacy code (in-house and in the field)

  • Troubleshoot issues with existing company installed systems

  • Write user manuals to communicate functionality of company developed programs

  • Technical writing, including Software Documentation- Test Plan, Operating Manual with Troubleshooting Guide, Spare Parts List with Vendor Parts

  • Requirement Reviews – Participate in reviews and work with Mechanical Engineering to ensure proper implementation of features

  • Diagnose and resolve issues in automated systems, minimizing downtime and improving performance

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement best practices in automation and control

  • Conduct system simulations, factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) to ensure seamless operation

Qualifications

  • Education: BA/BS degree in engineering or related discipline (BSEE degree preferred)

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in the automation industry

  • Skills:

  • - Proficiency in Design/Drafting Tools in AutoCAD or SolidWorks

    • Programming Logic Controllers (PLC)(e.g. Allen-Bradley, Omron)
    • Configuring and designing HMI systems (e.g. Allen Bradley)
    • Familiar with Industry Standards UL and CE
    • Familiar with various Motion Controllers/Actuators
    • Experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues
    • Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail and effective communication skills
    • Desired – experience with Vision System Programming (e.g. Cognex, Keyence)
    • Desired – experience with Robot programming (e.g. ABB, Fanuc)
