Job Overview:

GSK is currently looking for an Automation Associate Director in Rockville, MD. In this role you’ll lead the automation program to ensure delivery of bulk drug substance through automated controls. Maintains the process automation asset portfolio in a state of compliance, and provides reliable, robust automated solutions to manufacturing operations. Accountable for defining, deploying, and maintaining the digital transformation strategy for GSK’s pharma supply chain at Rockville

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the department budget, forecasting, and headcount planning in support of the automation program.

  • Ensures the automation team works in compliance and maintaining self-inspections in conformance with OSHA, FDA, EMA, and internal business monitoring within the EH&S, quality, and finance functions.

  • Responsible for planning and executing the support to GMP, safety, and financial audits in all aspects of the automation function.

  • Main point of contact with central engineering and technology groups in the design and deployment of strategic objectives related to recipe driven operations, batch design, asset deployment, etc.

  • Responsible for the site automation roadmap as it pertains to the process control of biologics unit operations including cell culture, harvest, chromatography, and filtration.

  • Accountable for formulating the business case, purpose, and problem statement in the technology space on behalf of the site partners including quality, manufacturing, manufacturing sciences (BPT) and engineering.

  • Responsible for developing strong relationships with other sites throughout the network, supporting alignment in a matrix environment conducing to a flexible, agile, and robust supply chain.

  • Provide high level cost estimates for the deployment, adoption, and lifecycle management for given technologies.

  • Responsible for forecasting needed capabilities in support of the technology roadmap and develop strategic alliances with the academia as well as other professional networks to ensure the site is current with the capabilities and capacity to support technology trends.

  • Steward for the site in the biotechnology field, advancing GSK position in the market as a leading company in Pharma.4.0

  • Develop and implement training and mentoring programs to support the Biopharm business across in the areas of applied statistics, data science, and analytics

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or other Technical degree
  • 8+ years’ experience of engineering experience
  • Minimum 5 years of GMP experience.
  • Prior project engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Strong in DeltaV, Siemens, Rockwell platforms
  • Familiarity with relational databases to include SQL, relational schemas and data structures.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/ engineering environment and familiarity with systems such as IP21, SAP, LIMS, Sycnade, DeltaV etc.
  • Programming knowledge. Preferably in Visual Basic or alternatively another object-oriented language.
  • Management experience of technical teams and managing capital/departmental budgets.
  • Strong communications skills. Able to present at business level.
