Job Description

Primary Purpose

Assists in the management of departmental processes and the supervision of Accounts Payable personnel.

Principal Duties:

  • Provides oversight to ensure timely payment of NS obligations for purchase orders, service contracts, non-purchase order invoices, and numerous interfaces approximating $8 billion annually.
  • Oversees accounting for fuel, inventory, and Goods Receipt / Invoice Receipt.
  • Supervises, trains, motivates, and develops assigned staff.
  • Manages NS corporate card programs and recovery audits.
  • Collaborates with IT to solve system problems and coordinate system modifications and enhancements.
  • Prepares or reviews and approves accounts payable accrual analyses, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensures proper internal controls exist related to NS payments and regularly interacts with internal and external auditors.
  • Ensures financial transactions resulting from the procurement cycle are recorded in accordance with GAAP and are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 3-5 years

Preferred Level: 6-10 years

Public accounting experience preferred


Required: Bachelor's Degree (BS)

Preferred Majors:

  • Accounting
  • Finance

Licenses / Certifications:

Required: None listed

Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Skills and Work Conditions

Technical Skills:

  • Strong ERP knowledge, SAP preferred
  • Proficiency with MS office, specifically Excel (Vlookup, pivot tables, etc.)
