Job Overview:

Job Summary

The Associate Scientist - Downstream will be responsible for the hands-on execution of laboratory experiments for the protein purification process and contribute to the development and optimization of processes. The primary responsibilities will include:
• Executing and supporting downstream purification (e.g., monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, etc.) on a bench-scale jointly with other scientists or independently.
• Conducting pilot-scale material generations with the team.
• Preparing and executing experimental protocols and analytical test methods under general guidance.
• Accurately documenting all procedures and observations
• Maintaining laboratory area, utilizes safe practices while working in the laboratory environment as per EHS guidelines and policy.

Required Experience (Six + months):

  • Working knowledge of experimental laboratory instruments and scientific products
  • Experience with safe laboratory practices and procedures
  • Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent)
  • Following scientific protocols, policies and procedures

Preferred Experience (Six + months) :

  • Hands-on experience in protein purification experiments including chromatography purification, UFDF, TFF, viral inactivation, and filtration, etc.
  • Strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or bioengineering.
  • Previous experience working in a GLP/GMP facility and/or relevant industry knowledge

Minimum Education Requirement:

BS/BA degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, cell biology, chemical engineering, or bioengineering with 2 years direct laboratory experience or MS degree in the same area.

The work environment is a laboratory/office setting, and the appropriate PPE will be required in designated areas. The Associate Scientist may travel up to 10% to other Avantor locations, vendor or customer sites to support activities and receive appropriate training. This is a full-time position.
