Job Summary

The Associate Powder Coater position is a factory position with a primary job function of applying powder coatings to various parts and product, ensuring a high-quality and even finish. This position works as part of team in the preparation, handling, inspection, and storage of parts before, during, and after the application of powder coat.  In addition to meeting daily demand requirements, this position is responsible for one’s own quality of products and maintaining accurate and legible records. Following company safety requirements and quality system standards is required. Flexibility of daily job demand tasks and keeping the work area clean and orderly is required.

Essential Functions

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure parts and product are prepped effectively prior to application process. 
  • Set up and operate powder coating equipment; including spray guns and booths. 
  • Apply powder coatings evenly and accurately to various surfaces and parts to achieve the desired finish. 
  • Monitor coating process to ensure proper adhesion and coverage. 
  • Adjust equipment settings, troubleshoot equipment issues, and perform routine maintenance. 
  • Set up and tear down hoppers for color changes. 
  • Assist with cleaning, sanding, and masking components to painted.
  • Hang and remove parts on the powder line conveyor.
  • Carefully handle parts prior to and after powder coating is applied.
  • Perform visual defect inspection of components before and after application.
  • Must be quality conscious and take responsibility for own quality of product.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records.
  • Ensures and follows safety requirements and standards.
  • Adheres to Company’s Quality System requirements. 
  • Maintain a safe, neat, and orderly work environment.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that follows, demonstrates, and promotes Company’s values. 
  • Report to work as scheduled, on time, and able to work entire work schedule.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Skill and ability to learn and be able to apply a uniform powder coat using a single or double coat process.
  • Ability to wear protective equipment associated with the powder coating process, such as suit, respirators, and gloves. 
  • Skill and ability to pay attention to detail with a focus on quality.
  • Ability to use mechanical tools such as power hand tools and wrenches.
  • Possess effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly adaptable and responsive to changing business needs.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. 
  • Knowledge of quality processes including measurements, documentation, and final inspection. 
  • Able to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to observe and identify details.
  • Ability to work extended hours as scheduled, including weekends. 

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift and handle wheelchairs and related accessories.
  • Continuous wrist manipulation, walking, and standing.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
  • Frequent sedentary work with lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional medium work with lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to position product and to use basic tools for assembly and measuring.
  • Must be able to complete all physical requirements to perform essential functions.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Required:
    1. Experience and proven ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Preferred: 
    1. Previous experience or knowledge of the powder coating process. 
    2. Experience working in a manufacturing environment. 
    3. Experience working with hand tools and measuring tools. 

Working Environment

  • Standard working conditions include a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to heat ranging from above ambient to extreme temperatures.
