A DAY IN THE LIFE:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of Strategic Product Management leads the strategic product management of Tandem’s Insulin Delivery Systems including hardware platforms, their embedded software, and automated insulin delivery algorithms. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the Product Management team, driving the development of product strategy and product plans for our integrated insulin delivery platforms.
  • Drives the product development process by identifying market requirements and customer needs through gathering of voice of customer (VOC) information and creating the vision for our multi-generational product roadmap.
  • Translates VOC insights into product requirements that deliver growth for the product category. 
  • Defines product strategy while taking into account market factors.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with R&D, Program Management, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Operations, Commercial Marketing and Sales to lead to timely product development and product commercialization. 
  • Works collaboratively with external partners on business development opportunities related to Diabetes.
  • Works closely with clinical Key Opinion Leaders.
  • Represents the company and product category during medical conferences, sales meetings, and customer visits. 
  • Functions as the internal champion for the product category
  • Monitors competitive activity, market drivers, and external constraints and provides pertinent updates to management.
  • Works closely with Clinical Affairs and Regulatory Affairs to develop coordinated approaches to clinical studies.  
  • Supports the short-term planning for the department including headcount, budgeting, training, and systems requirements.
  • Participates in the selection, development, performance appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of staff.
  • Ensures department staff is properly trained, per designated training plan, before assuming job responsibilities.
  • Develops and manages schedules and performance requirements of staff.
  • Adheres to company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, as well as other legal and Regulatory directives.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge, skills & abilities:
  • Strong knowledge, experience, and track record of success related to marketing principles, product management, strategic planning, and the product development process within an FDA regulated environment.
  • Adept at creating and communicating a clear vision and expectations among team members to effectively align resources to achieve functional area goals.
  • Experience at negotiating with customers or management and influencing senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of business opportunity assessments, clinical, and reimbursement, preferred
  • Foundational knowledge in the following disciplines: Marketing, user interface, , Reimbursement, Pricing, geographic markets or sales.
  • General understanding of the diabetes industry, preferred
  • Advanced computer and computer software skills, to include Microsoft Office products.

 

  1. Minimum certifications/educational level:
  • BS/BA Degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, Health Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
  • MBA or advanced marketing and/or project management training, desirable.

 

  1. Minimum experience:
  • 5-7 years related experience in a combination of product management, product development, and/or product planning.
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role with visibility to senior management.
  • Experience with educating and interacting with physician and other clinical customers.

JOB SCOPE:

  • Establishes operational objectives and work plans and delegates assignments to subordinates. Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.
  • Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
  • Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations.
