The Role:
Moderna is seeking a highly talented and motivated Associate Director/Director to serve as a Research Program Leader with a broad scientific skill base and expertise in infectious disease vaccine research. The successful candidate will drive progression of early stage vaccine project(s) from Research into Development and will lead a cross-functional early development team to bring the vaccine through completion of a Phase 1 clinical study. The candidate will align internal stakeholders on program strategy and will be accountable for program execution. Applicants should be outstanding vaccinologists with strong experience in research and early clinical development, excellent communicators, and have a successful track record of leading and motivating teams. They will be part of a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and fast-paced team that is translating Moderna’s mRNA technology into a broad portfolio of vaccines against infectious diseases.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Responsible for strategy and execution of an infectious disease vaccine early development program; serve as subject-matter-expert
Drive milestone achievements and go/no-go decision making to progress a vaccine from Research to Development
Lead a cross-functional early development program team to initiate and complete phase 1 studies
Represent the program status, scenarios, and trade-offs with senior leadership and internal stakeholders
Support development of regulatory documents and Heath Authority interactions
Engage external stakeholders including KOLs and advisory boards
Develop a program budget and timelines in in collaboration with program manager, finance, and functional representatives
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
PhD in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or related field
7+ years of experience (title commensurate with experience/skillset) in the discovery and development of infectious disease vaccines, encompassing areas such as antigen design, immunology, virology, translational research, with a preference given to experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting
Demonstrated excellence in cross-functional project leadership, as well as subject matter expertise
Equally comfortable with high level strategic analysis and detail-oriented execution
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively collaborate and influence others at all levels in a dynamic, highly matrixed organization.
