Job Overview:

Position Overview:

Modeling and simulation and specifically quantitative system pharmacology plays an increasingly important role in drug research & development at Sanofi. It is part of the Data and Data Science group within R&D. In addition, there is a growing strategic value of oncology and immuno-oncology portfolio for Sanofi with key partners and stakeholders located in the US.

Within the Translational Disease Modeling Oncology, the Associate Director of Quantitative System Pharmacology Oncology and Immuno-Oncology will primarily design, develop and implement QSP modeling approaches for both oncology and immuno oncology drugs to inform critical decisions in drug development. He/she will collaborate with preclinical, translational medicine and clinical research to develop mathematical models to understand the disease and targeted biological pathways. He/she will be responsible for framing critical questions to establish the right modeling & simulation strategies that enable lead optimization, inform dose selection and Go/No Go decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop multi-scale quantitative systems pharmacology models to address project questions and provide scenarios to the project team to guide decision making e.g. influence combination strategies, optimize dose and schedules, biomarker identification and efficacy/toxicity predictions.

  • Conduct and/or supervise extensive literature review to identify suitable mechanistic elements, interactions, rate constants and sub-modules for incorporation into complex disease models.

  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams both external and internal i.e. key stakeholders in research, translational medicine, clinical development, and clinical pharmacology to facilitate model development and application. Mentor junior scientists.

  • Provide single point of contact for oncology and immuno oncology stakeholders (TA head, TM lead etc.) both in research and development for QSP to ensure optimal communication, alignment, and prioritization. Identify areas and questions where advanced modeling may add value.

  • Participate in writing publications and making scientific presentations consistent with development strategies and publication plan in the area of QSP.

  • Embraces innovation into quantitative systems pharmacology, including software, methods, models, inclusion of novel data sources (real world data, literature-derived data.).

  • Mentor junior scientists

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in biomedical engineering, pharmacometrics, applied mathematics or related field as well as broad-based knowledge of quantitative clinical pharmacology related areas such as statistics, PK/PD, and systems pharmacology required.

  • Minimum 5 years pharmaceutical industry, CRO health-related consulting company, academic experience.

  • Strong experience with modelling and data analysis tools and languages such as Matlab and R or other modeling software.

  • Proficiency with systems modeling approaches or other advanced mechanistic modeling approaches.

  • Good understanding of cancer biology, physiology.

  • Recognized in the field of quantitative system pharmacology and application of computational PK/PD modeling and simulation tools to disease processes and pathophysiology required (as evidenced by oral presentation, posters, and publication in peer-reviewed journals).

  • Knowledge of models of complex biological pathways/systems, disease to support translational and/or clinical research in oncology and immuno oncology. Excellent understanding of theory, principles, and statistical aspects of advanced mathematical modeling.

  • Aptitude and experience to influence decisions and experimental design by using available data and appropriate modelling solutions.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with key stakeholders and partners (internal/external).

  • Ability to work effectively with others as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Strong team player and fully at ease in a matrix environment.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting project deadlines.

  • Ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop, and coach junior scientists, guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
