Operations & Dispatch, part of Connected Aviation inside Collins Aerospace, has a suite of applications that service the Commercial and Business Aviation industries. We’ve built the world's leading business aviation software platform, servicing over half of the business aviation market, providing a one-stop-shop for BizAv customers that handles their planning, scheduling, and connectivity needs. We’ve also built a suite of flagship messaging products that service a large part of the Commercial Aviation market.

Operations & Dispatch Engineering consists of teams that develop and deliver an array of services powering its products. These teams tackle a broad set of technologies and solve challenging technical and product problems daily. From collecting and interpreting aviation datasets, to enriching them with procedural solutions and delivering them through APIs, web interfaces, and mobile products, our engineers work in a dynamic environment that tests their ability to achieve the company’s vision.

We’re seeking a talented engineering leader to head this organization within Collins Aerospace. In this role, you’ll provide leadership, technical guidance, and product vision to an organization of teams and engineering managers. You’ll be responsible for organization building, delegation, service architecture and reliability, customer satisfaction, hiring, retention, and driving results across a large org. You’ll also work closely with senior organizational leaders across Sales, Marketing, Product, Program, Customer Service, and more to align engineering priorities with business goals.

This position is onsite and can be located in Annapolis, MD; Houston, TX; Charlotte, NC; or Cedar Rapids, IA.

What You Will Do:

Establish a clear vision for the group, promoting innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement that empowers managers and ICs.
Foster leadership growth within the organization by mentoring managers and developing clear succession plans.
Act as a hiring manager for engineering managers.
Own the organizations entire technical stack, including a number of high-performance distributed systems with strict SLAs.
Drive DevSecOps and Continuous Delivery maturity.
Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement.
Identify, implement, and champion process improvements across the engineering organization to enhance productivity, collaboration, and delivery efficiency, while ensuring alignment with company goals and industry best practices.
Drive business growth across the organization through product vision and leadership, efficient execution and delivery, and successful hiring and retention.
Work with business and product leaders to define roadmaps.
Own the organization’s engineering budget, producing Annual Operating Plans and ensuring costs match financial forecasts.
Drive an excellent customer experience, continually raising the bar on functionality, usability, and simplicity.
Drive collaboration across teams throughout Operations & Dispatch, Connected Aviation, and Collins. Drive alignment and collaboration with other technical leaders across the company to ensure consistency in tools, processes, and strategic goals.
Understand the aviation space and collaborate with cross-functional partners.
Identify and mitigate technical and organizational risks. Prepare the organization for future challenges.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
Successful track record as an engineering leader in the tech industry.
Experience in hiring and performance management of teams.
Experience fostering the professional growth of team members and creating succession plans.
Demonstrated ability to balance short-term deliverables with long-term goals, ensuring both immediate impact and sustainable growth.
Demonstrated ability to balance business priorities, urgency, competing constraints, and the delivery of high-quality, pragmatic solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Experience driving process improvements across a team.
Demonstrated success building relationships across an organization to drive success and alignment with product, sales, and other engineering teams. Proven success in influencing decisions and driving alignment across teams and functions without direct authority.
Proven ability to navigate interpersonal and organizational conflicts, fostering collaboration and resolving issues constructively.
Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to senior executives and stakeholders.
High level of self-awareness, empathy, and interpersonal skills to lead and connect with diverse teams.

Qualifications We Prefer:

Experience architecting, developing, and launching software products and/or services at tech companies, with a strong focus on ROI.
Experience navigating challenges in a large, multi-national organization across many time zones.
Experience managing an organization consisting of 50+ individuals.
Experience developing SaaS software.
Experience leading teams utilizing cloud-native and 12-factor principles.
You are a private pilot; you are looking to pursue your private pilot license or have a passion for aviation.

The salary range for this role is 162,000 USD - 326,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
