Job Overview:

Position Summary:

Gritstone bio is seeking an Associate Director to lead a cross-functional team to discover novel T cell targets (epitopes) and TCRs for multiple infectious disease and oncology programs. The primary role of the Associate Director is to lead innovation and collaboration within and across teams to drive the therapeutic program and support key company initiatives and collaborations. In addition to managerial and leadership skills, the Associate Director will have a strong background in cell line engineering, molecular biology, and vector/library design and construction. In addition, knowledge of cell biology and associated laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry and cell sorting, and T cell cultures is a plus.

Requirements: Minimum Education/Experience:
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or related scientific discipline.
  • Strong track record with ≥5 years of experimental and managerial experience post PhD in academic and industry settings
  • Experience managing partnership collaborations and working to meet key deliverables
  • Record of accomplishment as evidenced by developed products or core contributions on publications and/or patents
  • Ability to learn quickly and execute towards meaningful results
  • Leading cross-functional teams to meet key deliverables
Qualifications:

Scientific expertise:

  • Strong background in molecular biology, cell line engineering, and associated general laboratory techniques (cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qPCR, CRISPR)
  • Experience with high-throughput lentiviral production, titering and transduction
  • Strong background in assay innovation and preparing data packages for IP filings
  • Experience with isolation and culturing of primary T cells for identification of antigen-specific T cells is a plus
  • Experience using ELN and managing inventories
  • Experience with flow cytometry, cell sorting, cocultures is a plus
  • Experience with NGS and 10x genomics is a plus
Managerial and leadership skills:
  • Strong organizational skills and record keeping
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to think critically and guide cross-functional teams to meet key deliverables (internally and for external partnerships/collaborations)
  • Experience in mentoring, directing lab personnel and managing multiple diverse collaborations
  • The ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Excellent presentation and written/verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, molecular biology tools and software applications, including Genewiz, Geneious, Twist, etc.)
