General Summary:

The Associate Director will be responsible for delivering commercial insights from data analytics to inform strategic choices and commercialization decisions across multiple disease areas in the Vertex portfolio. This person will collaborate with disease area leads in Marketing Science, as well as a cross-functional team, to maintain a pulse on critical business questions, formulate and execute an analytics plan to answer them. The role will also work side-by-side with internal partners across the organization to enable a data driven mindset and play a key role in defining additional commercial analytics capabilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leverage Vertex’s in-licensed claims data assets to conduct queries and analyses to support the entire product portfolio and pipeline disease areas
  • Support the Marketing Science disease area leads to assess knowledge gaps and objectives that may be addressed by data analytics
  • Formulate and execute a comprehensive analytics generation plan to address a spectrum of business questions using the appropriate data source & methodology
  • Participate in multiple disease area analytics coordination forums, which provide cross-functional alignment on analytics activities supporting that program
  • Visualize and communicate the output of analyses, including both written and verbal communication, to business leaders and non-technical audiences
  • Work independently to set priorities and develop deliverables on projects

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Domain knowledge in clinical data, real world data (e.g., DRG, TriNetX, IBM MarketScan, IQVIA Pharmetrics, Premier or others), and/or other related data sources such as providers and health systems
  • Expertise with programming languages such as SAS, Python or others, and database languages such as SQL
  • Strong complex quantitative analysis skills; experience analyzing & interpreting patient-level data within health databases, as well as partnering with advanced analytics professionals
  • Experience with understanding and leveraging machine learning output
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills – able to synthesize and distill complex information into a compelling narrative
  • Ability to work and communicate with non-technical teams to translate business questions to analytically actionable questions
  • Proactive orientation - able to anticipate issues, engage with stakeholders and plan accordingly
  • Demonstrated experience as a trusted advisor and thought partner to stakeholders
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to effectively structure problems and solution approaches

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative, analytical discipline, such as Management Science, Data Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics or Engineering
  • 8+ years pharmaceutical experience working with data analytics (in-house or consulting)
  • Oversight and/or direct management of junior analysts
